Written by on August 8, 2017

Do the rebuilding San Francisco 49ers stand a chance of upsetting the Super Bowl-hopeful Kansas City Chiefs in their NFL Preseason Week 1 matchup? If you like straight-up winners (who doesn’t?) and you’re looking to cash in on some week 1 NFL preseason betting action, then you’re about to get a trio of expert preseason picks that will help you do just that!

Can the dysfunction-filled New York Jets hold down the fort at home against Marcus Mariota and a Tennessee Titans team that is looking to kick the playoff door in this season? Last but not least, can the relocated Los Angeles Chargers break in their new digs with a home win over Russell Wilson and the Super Bowl-hopeful Seattle Seahawks?

San Francisco 49ers (2-14) at Kansas City Chiefs (12-5)

Analysis: The San Francisco 49ers made some really nice offseason moves like fleecing the foolish Chicago Bears for a couple of draft picks just to move up one spot to nab a guy the Niners were never thinking about taking. Unfortunately, they also made some boneheaded moves like banking on Brian Hoyer, Matt Barkley and rookie C.J. Beathard to get them through the first season of the John Lynch/Kyle Shanahan era. Frisco has problems all over the field and will be looking for both, several starters and some quality backups on both sides of the ball.

Now, the Niners will pay for their foolishness when they visit a Kansas City Chiefs team that has some legitimate Super Bowl hopes after winning a dozen games last season. Kansas City will take a long look at backup quarterback Patrick Mahomes and deeper backups Tyler Bray and Joel Stave will trying to address their lack of depth at wide receiver and running back.

San Francisco is 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 road games while Kansas City is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. The Chiefs are the easy pick even in this early preseason matchup.

NFL Week 1 Top ATS Picks

Tennessee Titans (9-7) at New York Jets (5-11)

Saturday, August 12 at 7:30 PM ET MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey NFL Odds: Tennessee -2.5 / Total: 37.5

GAMETIME WEATHER

Mostly Cloudy 25°C/77°F Humidity 65% Precipitation % 12% Cloud Cover 69% Wind 7 mph SE Stadium Type Open

Analysis: The Tennessee Titans are clearly headed in the right direction and have a legitimate franchise signal-caller in the still blossoming Marcus Mariota. Unfortunately, the same can;t be said for a New York Jets team that will depend on either Josh McCown, Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty to get them through the 2017 season.

Still, for this matchup, I’ve got a funny feeling that Todd Bowles is going to dial up the defense to harass Tennessee backup Matt Cassel and deeper backups Alex Tanney and Tyler Ferguson into at least one or two costly turnovers.

The Titans will be looking at their defensive players and some depth at wide receiver during NFL Preseason Week 1.

The Titans will be looking at their defensive players and some depth at wide receiver while New York is looking to find a suitable running back – and someone that will actually catch the damn ball. The home team in this series is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings. New York gets the home upset in this one!

NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: Jets 24 Titans 20

Seattle Seahawks (11-6-1) at Los Angeles Chargers (5-11)

Sunday, August 13 at 8:00 PM ET StubHub Center, Carson, California TV: NFLN NFL Odds: L.A. Chargers -1.5 / Total: 38

GAMETIME WEATHER

Clear 23°C/73°F Humidity 80% Precipitation % 4% Cloud Cover 1% Wind 6 mph SW Stadium Type Open

Analysis: The Seattle Seahawks may have some legitimate Super Bowl hopes heading into 2017 while the Los Angeles Chargers are simply looking to get back to being a .500 team, but I’m firmly going with the Bolts to get the ‘feel-good’ win in their unofficial home opener.

The Chargers will turn to recently acquired backup Cardale Jones, veteran Kellen Clemens and Mike Bercovici after Philip Rivers leaves after a series or two at most while the Seahawks will look to backup Trevone Boykin and third-stringer Austin Davis after Russell leaves after a series or two.

Seattle is looking to shore up an offensive line that hasn’t been the same ever since they traded Max Unger for Jimmy Graham a couple of years ago while L.A. is looking to add some depth at the wide receiver position and find some guys that can actually play competent defense, starting with their overly generous secondary.  The Seahawks are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games while the underdog in this rivalry is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings.

NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick: San Diego 24 Seattle 17
