Canadiens vs Islanders Season Series

Canadiens lead 1-0, winning 4-2 in Montreal on Dec. 3. Phillip Danault, Brendan Gallagher and Shea Weber each had a goal and an assist to help the Canadiens snap what was an eight-game losing streak at the time. Jeff Petry also scored and Carey Price stopped 21 shots. Scott Mayfield and Matthew Barzal scored in the third period for the Islanders, and Thomas Greiss finished with 36 saves.

Why Bet on Montreal?

Montreal snapped a two-game skid with Saturday’s 4-3 overtime victory over visiting Carolina. The Habs, though, blew a 3-0 lead. It was the fifth consecutive home game in which the Canadiens failed to protect a multigoal cushion, and are 1-2-2 in those games. “We haven’t been good with leads,” Brendan Gallagher said. “We have to work through this and learn to play with the lead. You have a two-goal lead or a three-goal lead, they need to be locked down.”

Jeff Petry had the winning goal, his 10th of the season. Petry received a therapy day on Monday and he didn’t participate in practice but is traveling to New York and should play.

Gallagher posted a goal and an assist in the win. Gallagher ended up with a plus-1 rating, four shots on goal and a hit in his 15:16 of ice time across 21 shifts. It was his first multi-point game since Dec. 28 at Tampa Bay, and his first two-point game in front of the home fans since Dec. 3. He is up to 21 goals and 41 points through 56 games.

Phillip Danault posted a goal and an assist as well. He won 12 of his 20 faceoff chances (60.0 percent) across 20:00 of ice time over 24 shifts. He has managed a goal and four points with a plus-4 rating during his three-game point streak.

Tomas Tatar registered three assists. The 29-year-old Czech forward has back-to-back multi-point games, and a total of a goal and five assists with a plus-5 rating during his three-game point streak. Tatar has a personal best 61 points in 67 games this season. This is the first time in his career that Tatar has reached the 60-point mark.

Why Bet on NY Islanders?

New York dropped its third in a row Saturday, 4-0 vs. Boston. David Pastrnak opened the scoring at 4:30 of the first period, beating Islanders netminder Semyon Varlamov with his league-leading 47th goal of the season. Defensemen Torey Krug and Brandon Carlo assisted. Matt Grzelcyk made it 2-0 at 13:10 with his third goal, assisted by Brad Marchand and McAvoy. Marchand scored at 11:06 of the third to make it 3-0 and that ended any comeback chances for the Isles.

The Bruins are now 14-2-1 in their last 17 contests against the Islanders and 13-1 in their last 14 road games against New York. It was only the fifth time the Islanders played on Feb. 29. Their only win came in 1984, 4-3 at Winnipeg.

Ryan Pulock had a team-high four shots in Saturday’s loss. Pulock has seven goals on 143 shots this season.  Semyon Varlamov stopped 26 of 30 shots in the loss.

Anthony Beauvillier is in a slump with only two points in his last 10 contests. On a second line with Brock Nelson that’s just not productive enough.  Beauvillier has a goal and an assist in the 10 games to give him 18 goals and 38 points. Beauvillier also hasn’t been good defensively posting a minus in six of the last 10 and having a lapse in the overtime loss to St Louis this past week.

Coach Barry Trotz said that Casey Cizikas (leg) should start skating soon. Cizikas suffered a leg laceration on February 11 and has been out ever since. He has 10 goals and 14 points in 48 games this season. The Isles have gone 2-5-2 in Cizikas’ absence. Cizikas’ linemate, Cal Clutterbuck, returned to the lineup on Saturday after being sidelined since Dec. 19, when he was slashed across the left wrist by Patrice Bergeron’s skate blade in Boston.
