NHL Free Picks For The Washington At Boston Match

Written by on April 7, 2017

This weekend will mark the end of the NHL regular season, and with the majority of the playoff spots already booked, it’s likely that we will see a lot of 3rd and 4th line players getting extra ice time over the weekend. This is probably particularly true with the Washington Capitals, as they have already clinched the President’s Trophy for having the best record in the league. Given that they have had very limited success in the postseason over the past few years, I really don’t see the risking any of their key players getting hurt in a game that means nothing. They will be on the road to face the Boston Bruins, who have also booked their spot in the postseason. The thing with the Bruins is that they can still catch the Ottawa Senators and move up in the standings, which may well mean a more favorable match-up in the opening round. Expect Boston to have all their major players available for this one. Find out more about the latest NHL betting odds here.

Why bet on the Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals (54-18-8) have already reached 116 points on the season and would be easily excused for taking their foot off the gas coming down the stretch. That has not been the case, though, and they are heading into the final weekend of the NHL season on a 3-game win streak, whilst also racking up 9 wins in their last 10 games. This is a team that appears to be hitting stride at just the right time, but their previous playoff failures are still sure to be clear in their mind. The Capitals have dominated the Bruins over the past few seasons, winning 8 in a row against them. The Caps come into the weekend with a 22-12-6 record on the road.

Why bet on the Boston Bruins

For a little while, it looked as though the Boston Bruins (44-30-7) might be in danger of missing the playoffs, but they are finishing the season strong, booking their postseason spot earlier this week. They will be keen to keep rolling, though, as they can move up a little further in the standings to give themselves a shot as a much better opening round match-up. The Bruins have gone 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, and have put together a solid 23-16-1 record on home ice this season. If the Bruins are going to make a deep run in the postseason, they are going to need to continue with their solid special teams play. Boston is currently #1 in penalty killing, which could help them steal some games in the postseason.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

While the Washington Capitals may choose to rest some guys this weekend, they should still be able to get past a Bruins team that they have dominated over the past few season. I’m taking the Caps to get the win on the road.
