This has been a Stanley Cup playoffs that has delivered more than its fair share of surprises. Of the 3 teams that are still alive, there is really only one, the Pittsburgh Penguins, that people actually picked to be at this stage. The Nashville Predators, who have already punched their ticket into the Stanley Cup Final, and the Ottawa Senators are surprises of the highest order.

Perhaps the biggest shock of all is that the Senators have managed to take the Eastern Conference Finals to 7 games, especially since most pundits had the Penguins winning that series in 5 or 6 games at the most. Before the Stanly Cup Final begins, we thought it might be fun to get the old crystal ball out and do a little bit of predicting, starting with the outcome of the Eastern Conference Final.

NHL Eastern Conference Final Game 7 Prediction

The fact that the Pittsburgh Penguins are the defending Stanley Cup champions should tell you all you need to know about the quality of this team. The Penguins are a team with a ton of playoff experience, and they know how to get the job done in tough situations. A perfect example of that could be seen in the last round when they knocked off the Washington Capitals on the road in Game 7. That win gave the Pens a 6-0 record in Game 7’s played on the road. The advantage that the Penguins have with this upcoming Game 7 is that they will get to play it on home ice. The Senators did a nice job of bouncing back to win Game 6 after getting pounded 7-0 to go down in the series. The Senators have been a scrappy bunch during this postseason, and have continually found ways to win close games. They might well be able to keep this Game 7 close, but I think they are just a little outmatched. Penguins move on. Who Will Win the Stanley Cup Final?

Who Will Win the Stanley Cup Final?

Since we know that the Nashville Predators are already in the final, we can make some predictions based on their performances to this point, as well as how they have performed against their two potential opponents. When we look at the latter, it becomes quite clear that Nashville would sooner face the Senators. This is a team that they have dominated in recent meetings, and who they only surrendered two goals to in their regular seasons meetings earlier this year. If it’s the Senators that make the Stanley Cup Final, look for Nashville to win quite handily, probably in 5 games. Things are not quite so rosy for Nashville should they have to face the Pittsburgh Penguins. Yes, they split the regular season series, but the last 10 meetings between these two ended with the Penguins winning 7 of those games. I picked the Pittsburgh Penguins to win the Stanley Cup from the start, so I am not going to deviate from that, and I like them to win it in 6 games.
