US Open Men’s Winning Predictions

The top two male players in the world, Novak Djokovic (EV) and Andy Murray (+125) are once again on a collision course, this time at the US Open in Flushing Meadow, New York. Given that they are number one and two in the world, they landed on opposite sides of the draw, and both have what looks to be a tough road to the final. Each side of the draw is split into two quarters, so let’s take a look at all four quarters to see who might make it out, after which I will come up with a betting prediction for the whole tournament. First Quarter Preview

This is where the tournament favorite Novak Djokovic resides, and it has to be said the he has a tough road to the semi-finals, especially when you consider that he is still nursing a sore wrist. The dark horse in this quarter is going to be Marin Cilic (+1600), who would meet Djokovic in the quarter-final if both men make it through. Cilic had a bit of a breakthrough at the Cincinnati Open, where he took out Andy Murray, a player he has routinely struggled against. That said, Djokovic should still come through if that wrist holds up.

Second Quarter Preview

Milos Raonic (+1400) is having what can best be described as a breakout year, making it all the way to the Wimbledon final before losing to Murray. His biggest competition in this part of the draw is Rafael Nadal (+2250), but the Spaniard has wrist issues, and hasn’t really been a threat at a major tournament for quite some time. Look for Raonic to make it to the semi-finals.

Third Quarter Preview

Stan Wawrinka (+1800) is the man to beat here, but he has shown little to suggest that he can make it out of what should be a tough quarter. This is a part of the draw that is loaded with talent, and Wawrinka has what looks like the toughest road to the semis of any of the top seeds. At the end of the day, I believe it will be Nick Kyrgios (+4800) who survives this brutal section of the draw.

Fourth Quarter Preview

There is no hotter player in tennis right now than Andy Murray. The Scotsman has won 22 of his last 23 games, and has a Wimbledon championship and an Olympic gold medal to his name during that run. I could go on about the other players in this part of the draw, but there really seems to be no point in doing so. Murray is playing the best tennis of his career, and should get to the semis quite comfortably.

US Open Championship Prediction

I’m pretty sure that everyone is hoping for a Djokovic/Murray final, and I believe that is what we will all get. The only sticky point is that wrist injury of Djokovic’s, but no matter who Murray faces, I think he will beat them and take the title.
