On the men’s side, young up-and-coming players will once again try to supplant either Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal, who continue to win Grand Slams well into their late 30s. It’s always tough to bet against Djokovic or Nadal. Pundits and fans alike expect their downfall every year, but they continue to prove themselves a class ahead of the rest of the field. However, Nadal showed signs of aging last season with injury problems at Wimbledon and near the end of the season. Djokovic has been as dominant as ever recently, winning the ATP Finals in November and Adelaide International 1 the first week of 2023. However, don’t be so quick to discount Alexander Zverev at +1000.

Zverev, 25, is an Olympic gold medalist who appeared to be on track for Grand Slam success in 2022 but suffered an ankle injury at the French Open in the semifinals. He missed Wimbledon and the US Open, where he was a finalist in 2020. Zverev lost both of his matches at the United Cup and will obviously take some time to get back to playing at the level he once did. His best result at Wimbledon is the fourth round, which he reached in 2017 and 2021.

The women’s draw is a lot more wide open than the men’s as there’s no equivalent to Nadal or Djokovic. Iga Swiatek has a chance to reach that level as she won the French Open and US Open last year, but will need to show she can replicate that success in 2023. The 21-year-old went 3-1 in the United Cup last week, losing to Jessica Pegula in the semifinals.

There’s plenty of names to like in the list above, but Ons Jabeur (+900) is someone not only deserving but due for a Grand Slam victory. The Tunisian reached the semifinals at the Adelaide International 1 last week and reached the finals at Wimbledon and the US Open last year in what was the best year of her career. Her competitiveness is unmatched and you can bet that she’s going to be even more motivated heading into Wimbledon this season.
