No Medvedev or Zverev

The men’s draw will be without top of the top players in the world as Daniil Medvedev and Alex Zverev won’t be at Wimbledon for very different reasons. Medvedev, the world No. 1, is unable to participate as Wimbledon has banned all Russian and Belarussian players. Zverev, world No. 2, is out due to an injury.

Normally, the top two ranked players in the world being absent from a tournament would leave a wide open draw, but that’s hardly the case at Wimbledon, where Novak Djokovic has won each of the last three championships.

Serena Williams Returns

Most of the top women in the world, as of now, will be at Wimbledon. One of the all-time greats, Serena Williams, is also making her return to singles tennis after a year-long absence dating back to last year’s Wimbledon. It’s difficult to imagine her winning, but what an incredible story it would be.

Williams is participating in doubles with Ons Jabeur at the Eastbourne International. The duo won their Round of 16 match in three sets.

The Favorites – Djokovic (-125) and Swiatek (+150)

Djokovic is a remarkable -125 betting favorite to win this year’s Wimbledon, but with good reason. He has won at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in five of the last seven Wimbledons and is now two Grand Slam victories behind Rafael Nadal for the all-time lead. The draw sets up for a potential Djokovic-Nadal final, too.

Felix Auger-Aliassime recently won his first tournament on the ATP Tour and took Nadal to five sets at the French Open, which only two other players have done. He hasn’t had a strong grass court season, but the 21-year-old is on the cusp of winning his first Grand Slam.

Raducanu, meanwhile, has the home crowd advantage. The 2021 US Open winner has had a difficult year, but what better place to turn it around than at Wimbledon?

Longshots – Cam Norrie (+5000) and Bianca Andreescu (+2200)

If you’re looking for a real longshot on the men’s draw with some potential to go deep in the tournament, Cam Norrie is a great option. The world No. 12 will also have home court advantage and has won two ATP 250 tournaments this season.

Bianca Andreescu, the 2020 US Open winner, is back after a nearly yearlong absence and is in search of her first victory at Wimbledon. She has showed signs of progress in the grass court season and could surprise some people at Wimbledon.
