Things have been pretty quiet on the UFC news and rumors front for a couple of weeks. Other than talking about potential matchups that we might see in the future, there has been little else to talk about. That is certainly not the case this week, as there is plenty of news to get into, and not all of it is of the good variety. We will get into that in this piece, as well as talking about what went down in UFC 255 and how that might affect future matchups. So, without further ado, let’s get to the latest news that can help you out when making your bets against our UFC odds.
2020 MMA Betting News & Rumors Update Nov. 23rd Edition
As everyone is well aware, COVID numbers are beginning to spike again, with many people believing that it might be time for another shutdown. Nevada is one of the states talking about putting restrictions in place, a decision that might well have an impact on the UFC. While closing the Apex would not be great news for fight fans, the UFC would probably move all upcoming events to Fight Island or to another state that is not quite as stringent in terms of restrictions. This is a fluid situation that we will be keeping a close eye on.
On the bad news front, we have a cancellation to report this Monday. UFC 256, which is set to go 3 weeks from now, was supposed to have a title fight between Peter Yan and Aljamain Sterling as the headline bout, but Yan has pulled out of the fight for undisclosed reasons. On the bright side, with Deiveson Figueiredo winning in the opening round over the weekend, the belief is that he will be good to go again at UFC 256, where he will now fight Brandon Moreno for the Flyweight title. As we have seen, though, I would not set the lineup in stone just yet.
Saturday night saw Valentina Shevchenko defend her title for the fourth time in a bout that was as one-sided as it gets. At times, it looked as though it was little more than a training session for the champ. The question now is about who can step up and give Shevchenko something to think about in this division. According to Dana White, who spoke after the fight, he believes that Jessica Andrade might well be the fighter to put forth a strong challenge. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but this is indeed a bout that makes a lot of sense.
Joaquin Buckley made a name for himself at Fight Island 5 when he went viral with a ridiculous KO win. He followed that up with another KO win on the undercard in UFC 255 and now looks like a guy ready to take the next step. If he gets his way, he will be taking on James Krause at UFC 257. While he did not directly call out Krause after his win on Saturday night, you do not have to be a genius to know exactly who he was talking about. If that bout happens, you can bet that it will be on the main card.
