After what has felt like an eternity, we will see the UFC return to action this weekend. Fight Island 3, it will be the first event held in the brand new Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi the fight will be available on ABC and ESPN+, with the card for that one finalized, although we should remember that any bout can be cancelled at any tie prior to the start of the event. We saw a little too much of that in the final month of last year, so let’s hope that all the fighters can stay healthy ahead of the return to action. We are going to start this week by talking about the main card for that event, but we also have some other news and rumors to cover so let’s get right to it so you can start getting ready to make your bets against their UFC odds.

2021 MMA Betting News & Rumors Update | Jan. 11th Edition

It will be Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar who will headline Fight Island 3 this coming weekend the first of the Dubai triple header that will run all week long, be sure to tune in early Saturday with the prelims starting at midday with the main card starting at 3pm ET. We also have 3 more fights set to go on the main card. The card gets rolling with a Middleweight bout between Punahele Soriano and Duskp Todorovic, both of whom are currently unbeaten. It’s another Middleweight bout next, with Joaquin Buckley and Alessio de Chirico set to square off. That is followed by a Welterweight bout between Santiago Ponzinibbio and Jingliang Li and the co-main event, which features Carlos Condit and Matt Brown. We have to say that this is a solid card.

While most of us are looking ahead to the 23^rd the Conor McGregor UFC 257 fight the finally of Fight Island 3, many of us are still wondering how the Lightweight division is going to shape up. As of yet, Khabib Nurmagomedov is yet to officially file retirement papers, leading many to believe that he is not yet totally done with the UFC. Dana White has made it clear that he wants Khabib to return for one more fight, which would likely be against McGregor, but that may prove to be a sticking point for the champ.

Khabib has said in the past that he really wants to fight Georges St. Pierre. The champ has said in the past that a fight with McGregor would be “beneath him,” but might that feeling change? The answer to that question might well depend on what St. Pierre does this year. You need only look at his Instagram account to see that he is constantly working out and staying in shape, and while he said n a recent interview that he hates fighting, he also said that he missed winning. Might that be enough to coax him out for one more fight against the champ?

There is a lot going on in the Middleweight division, with Israel Adesanya moving up to Light Heavyweight for his next fight. Robert Whittaker, who most recently laid a beating on Jared Cannonier, looked to be next in line for another shot at Adesanya, but that does not seem to be the case now, as Dana White announced that Whittaker will need to have another fight before getting a shot at the title. There is no word yet on who that fight would come against, so watch this space for further updates.
