UFC Fight Night: Chiesa Vs Magny Expert Analysis

UFC Fight Night: Chiesa Vs Magny Expert Analysis

Written by on January 19, 2021

The UFC has wasted no time in returning to action in 2021 after taking a few weeks off during the holiday season. We had Fight Night Island 7 this past weekend, with the return of Conor McGregor at UFC 257 now just a matter of days away. Before we get to that, though, UFC has slipped in another event on Wednesday night, with a 6-fight main card on the books at Fight Island 8. There is a lot to cover here, so let’s jump right into the action so you can get ready for the fights and make your bets against their UFC odds.

UFC Fight Night: Chiesa Vs Magny | MMA Betting

Lerone Murphy (-305) Vs Douglas Andrade (+245)

The main card begins with a Featherweight bout featuring a fighter who is very much one to watch. Lerone Murphy is 9-0-1 after a draw and a win in his first 2 bouts under the UFC banner. His latest was a devastating opening round win over Ricardo Ramos last July. He will go against a veteran fighter in Andrade, who has been up and down of late, winning 2 and losing 2 in his last 4 fights. I think Murphy takes this one via KO.

Tyson Nam (-130) Vs Matt Schnell (+100)

As the odds clearly show, this one looks like an evenly matched Flyweight bout. Nam usually fights as a Bantamweight, but he is making the move here and looking to build on a 2-fight win streak, with both victories coming in the early rounds. Schell saw an impressive 4-fight win streak come to an end in his last bout after getting KOed by Alexandre Pantoja last time out. I think it could be more trouble to come for Schell here.

Roxanne Modafferi (+255) Vs Viviane Araujo (-315)

The ladies are up next for a Flyweight bout that showcases a veteran versus and up and comer. Modafferi comes into this fight with a 25-17 career mark. As good as that may be, you need to go back to 2017 to find the last time she won 2 fights in a row. Araujo is 9-2 and looking to crack the top 10 in the division, which she might do with a win here. I think this one goes the distance, with Araujo getting the win.

Ike Villanueva (-135) Vs Vinicius Moreira (+105)

This Light Heavyweight bout is another one that could easily go either way. It has not been a great start to life in the UFC for Villanueva, who has lost each of his first 2 bouts, falling to 16-11 in the process. None of his last 6 bouts have gone the distance. It has been much the same story for Moreira (9-4), as he is winless in 3 fights in the UFC. Both of these men are going to come out swinging but look for Villanueva to get the KO win.

Warlley Alves (+205) Vs Mounir Lazzez (-245)

The co-main event of the night is a Welterweight bout between a pair of fighters heading in different directions at the moment. Alves has now lost 2 of his last 3 and 4 of his last 7 and really needs a win if he wants to stay in the UFC. That win might be tough to come by against a fighter who is currently on a 3-fight win streak, 2 of which have come in the opening round. Another quick finish for Lazzez here, as I like him to win by KO.

Michael Chiesa (+110) Vs Neil Magny (-140)

The headline event of the night has all the makings of a great Welterweight bout. Chiesa, who is 16-4 on his career, is on a very decent run of form, winning each of his last 3 fights, with 2 of those going the distance. It has been much the same story for Neil Magny, who has taken down some very good fighters on his way to a 24-7 record, which includes his current 3-fight win streak. I think we see this one go the distance, with Magny getting the decision.
