Whenever you had a massive main event that includes a title fight in the UFC, the hours and days that follow are usually filled with all manner of news and rumors. The fallout from UFC 260 is already happening, including some surprising details on what might be next for the new Heavyweight champion. We are going to get into all that in this piece, although it is worth remembering that tensions often run high after a major fight, so the headlines that we are seeing today may not ring true a couple of weeks from now. Let’s start with what is going on in the Heavyweight division and work our way back from there so you can continue betting against their UFC odds.
2021 MMA Betting News & Rumors Update | Mar. 29th Edition
Francis N’Gannou has been to the brink of a title and back again over the last couple of years, but he finally broke through with a brilliant display against the champ, putting down Stipe Miocic with a brutal KO in the 2nd round on Saturday night. Miocic went down hard and was totally out for the count, but the good news is that his wife took to social media to let everyone know that he was fine. It was a brutal display by N’Gannou and one that had people talking about a potential matchup with Jon Jones, which is where the craziness begins to take shape.
Given that the new Heavyweight champ got the job done relatively quickly, he is already talking about making his first title defense in the summer. While Jones would seem to be the next in line for a shot at the title, there appears to be a bit of a war of words developing between he and Dana White. Jones is allegedly demanding a sizeable paycheck to face N’Gannou and is requesting an amount that White seems unwilling to pay. That caused White to suggest that Jones is using money to duck the fight. White went on to say that he would be just as happy to have Derrick Lewis as the next man up. This is a situation we are going to need to keep an eye on.
There were some legitimate concerns about the future of Tyrone Woodley heading into Saturday night, and after a 4th straight loss, it might just be that his time in the UFC is over. In fairness to Woodley, he came out with all guns blazing, going toe to toe with Vicente Luque in a fantastic battle that earned Fight of the Night honors. The end result is still the same, though, and with that one being the last that Woodley was contracted for with the UFC, the rumor is that he may now be on the way out.
Another fighter whose UFC future could be in doubt is Thomas Almeida, as he is now on a run that has seen him lose 4 of his last 5 fights. He lost again on Saturday night, albeit against a very strong looking Sean O’Malley, who looks to be very much back on track in the Bantamweight division. O’Malley is still of the belief that he should be unbeaten after a recent controversial TKO loss and he looked to have a chip on his shoulder on Saturday night. He is one to watch in this division.
