UFC 264: Conor McGregor Vs Dustin Poirier | MMA Betting Preview

  • When: Saturday, July 10
  • Where: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, NV

This will be the third fight between McGregor and Poirier

The first fight happened in 2014 at the height of Conor’s popularity. Back then, McGregor was the biggest draw in mixed-martial-arts.

Nobody was as big of a name as Conor McGregor. McGregor knew this, which is why he promoted every fight like it was the biggest fight in the history of UFC.

McGregor won via first-round knockout. The two wouldn’t fight again until 2021. That fight turned out differently than the first.

The once unbeatable Conor McGregor looked slow and pedestrian. He didn’t seem to have any legs. While McGregor struggled, Poirier landed a few decent shots in the second-round that sent McGregor to the canvas.

McGregor had nothing in that fight, which is why it’s strange he’s at the same odds as Dustin Poirier.

What are the early odds in McGregor Vs Poirier III?

Both MMA fighters are at -115. Based on history, McGregor could go off the slight favorite, but the 2021 version of Conor McGregor doesn’t resemble the 2014 version.

While McGregor has lost 2-of-3, Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in the fourth round in a 2018 bout, Poirier is 6-1 straight up in his last 7 bouts.

Khabib is the only fighter that has beaten Dustin Poirier since Michael Johnson knocked him out in 2016. Poirier has gotten better while McGregor appears to have gotten worse.

Are any other fights set?

MyBookie has posted odds for Gilbert Burns versus Stephen Thompson. Burns is at +115 while Thompson is at -145.

So far, five other bouts should happen in addition to Thompson against Burns and Poirier versus McGregor.

18-7-1 Jennifer Maia takes on 15-9 Jessica Eye. Maia lost her last fight, a title bout versus Valentina Schevchenko while Eye has lost 3-of-4.

Ryan Hall battles Ilia Topuria and former football player Greg Hardy takes on Tai Tuivasa in a couple of other bouts. Hardy lost his last bout.

Before Marcin Tybura beat Hardy this past December, the former Dallas Cowboy and Nebraska Cornhusker had won two straight. Tai Tuivasa is 12-3 and has won his last couple of bouts. Hardy versus Tuivasa should be one of the more competitive matches on the Poirier-McGregor undercard.

Another top match pits 21-5-1 Omari Akhmedov against 18-7 Brad Tavares. Both men fought in January and both men won.

As Dana White and UFC pair fighters, oddsmakers will set fight lines. Keep a lookout for odds on the fights we discussed as well as other bouts likely to land on the UFC 264 undercard.
