Seattle Storm (5-2) at Los Angeles Sparks (4-1)

Seattle is off to a good start this season, and so is Los Angeles. The Storm should be highly motivated coming into this contest against the championship runner-up Sparks. Seattle had its five-game winning snapped in their narrow 94-90 road loss against Dallas on Saturday. The Wings held the Storm’s Jewell Loyd to just 16 points, ending her string of scoring 20 or more points at five consecutive games. Sue Bird sat out to rest and rookie Jordin Canada got the start while finishing with nine points, nine assists, and a career-high five steals. Los Angeles has won two straight including their 77-69 win over defending champion Minnesota on Sunday as Candace Parker had a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds and Chelsea Gray added 15 points in the win.

Los Angeles might be playing at home in this contest, but I think the parks are due for a home loss against a Seattle team that is putting up 91.6 points per game compared to the Sparks’ 83.0 points per contest. Seattle has a star now in Jewell Lloyd and I expect a big game for her after she was held relatively quiet against Dallas this past weekend. Minnesota Lynx (2-5) at Connecticut Sun (5-0)

Minnesota has lost four in a row for the first time since dropping five straight in the 2010 season, the year before the gifted Maya Moore was drafted. The Lynx were on the wrong end of a 77-69 loss against Los Angeles on Sunday as they shot a dismal 25 percent (4 of 16) from the field in the third quarter. Moore finished with 18 points, including three 3-pointers, and Sylvia Fowles added 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the loss. Jasmine Thomas scored a season-high 25 points, hitting four 3-pointers, to help the Connecticut Sun beat the Washington Mystics 88-64 on Sunday and remain the lone undefeated team in the WNBA. The Sun shot a solid 47 percent from the field in the win and drained 10 three-pointers while beating Washington on the glass 45-31.

Minnesota might be the defending champions, but right now, they’re struggling like crazy with Connecticut is sharing the rock and playing outstanding basketball. Conversely, Minnesota is giving up more points per game (79.3 ppg) than they are averaging (76.6 ppg). Connecticut is the better team at both ends of the floor and they’re playing at home as well.
