2024 AFL Season

The AFL regular season is quickly coming to a close.

There is a lot of competition for spots in the top eight in the standings.

The matchups this weekend are exciting for fans following the sport, which will feature several teams looking to protect their spot in the standings.

With the battle for finals berths intensifying, every point counts.

Understanding the narratives surrounding each game is important, but astute AFL fans also know the value of AFL betting odds.

These odds offer valuable insights into the predicted outcomes, but it’s crucial to analyze factors beyond bookmaker projections.

Recent form, injury updates, and head-to-head matchups all influence the course of a game and can help you identify potential value bets.

How a few of these games play out will have a long-term impact on the playoff chase.

Western Needs to Upend Fremantle

The Bulldogs haven’t righted the ship since they won back-to-back matches in Rounds 2 and 3.

Western hasn’t been able to win consecutive games since.

The Bulldogs, who are -143 to win against Fremantle, are 6-7 and currently sitting 11th in the table.

Western has gone 3-2 over its past five matches, but will need to be much more consistent to win against a Fremantle team that is tough on defense.

The Dockers are unbeaten over their previous three matches, including a 92-point win over Melbourne last week.

Fremantle has plenty of diversity in its attack, with a different goal scorer over its previous five matches.

Betting Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle Lines

AFL Odds: Western -5.5 / Western -161; Fremantle +104 / O/U 167.5

Hawthorn Looks to Ride Wave

The Hawks have won three straight matches, putting up 100 or more points in two of those wins.

Hawthorn has seen Jack Gunston lead the team in scoring in two of the past three matches.

The Hawks are -210 to win.

Richmond, which is +165, finally pulled out of a nosedive last week.

The Tigers were finally able to pull out an eight-point win over Adelaide.

Before that, Richmond’s offense was in the middle of a brutal run.

The Tigers had lost eight straight matches before beating the Crows by eight points.

Richmond will want to make this one ugly to win. Hawthorn should be able to avoid being dragged into the muck.

The over/under is set at 169.5 points for this match.

This game should go under the total.

Betting Richmond vs Hawthorn Lines

AFL Odds: Hawthorn -13.5 / Richmond -217; Hawthorn +135 / O/U 168.5

Sydney Tries to Protect Top Spot

The Swans have established themselves in a lovely spot at the top of the AFL standings.

Sydney has been winning in dominant fashion lately.

During their current eight-match winning streak, the Swans scored over 100 points in six matches.

Sydney, which is -315 to win, is now 11-1 and has won all those matches by double figures during this winning streak.

Sydney will now have the opportunity to play Adelaide, which has been struggling as of late.

The Crows have lost three of their past four matches.

The over/under has been set at 167.5 points.

The Swans’ attack has been highly proficient recently and should go over the total.

Sydney’s offense will have the Crows on the run to keep up.

Betting Adelaide Crows vs Sydney Swans Lines

AFL Odds: Sydney -17.5 / Adelaide +190 Sydney -323 / O/U 164.5

AFL Betting – Round 14 Odds & Picks for August 27 and 28

Previous Betting News

With the 2020 AFL regular season rolling right along as it approaches the completion of its 18-week schedule, it’s time to take a look at the top three matchups on the round 14 docket. Fourth-place West Coast will be on the road looking to take down fifth place Richmond. The eight place Bulldogs will look to do the same when they host the third place Geelong Cats while league-leading Port Adelaide will look to cover a big figure against the lowly Sydney Swans. Now, let’s find out where the best betting value lies in all three contests, along with their AFL odds.

2020 AFL Odds and Picks for Round 14 August 27 & 28 Matches

Richmond Tigers (8-4-1) vs West Coast Eagles (9-3-0)

Richmond is fifth in the AFL standings with 857 points scored and 720 points allowed. The Tigers have won two straight and four of their last five including a 73-61 road win over Essendon on Saturday. West Coast is in fourth place in the AFL ladder with 813 points scored and just 670 points allowed (second). More importantly, the Eagles are on fire, having won eight straight games including a 61-49 home win over GWS on Sunday. These two rivals have split their last two meetings with Richmond recording a narrow, 88-82 home win a year ago and West Coast recording an emphatic 130-83 win in 2018. Now though, West Coast is the clearly superior defensive team in this pairing and they’ll be locked-in as they look to extend their impressive winning streak. Back the 2018 AFL champs to get it done despite being on the road in this round 14 showdown.

Western Bulldogs (7-6-0) vs Geelong Cats (9-4-0)

The Bulldogs are sitting in eighth place in the standings with 843 points scored, but 831 points allowed. Western has won two straight after dropping their previous three games and comes into this matchup off a convincing 80-52 home win over ninth place Melbourne on Friday. Geelong is sitting in third place in the AFL ladder with a league-leading 953 points scored and 769 points allowed. The Cats have won four straight including a 65-37 road win over last place Adelaide on Saturday. To get right to the point, I’m expecting Geelong to have this game well in hand by halftime. The Cats are downright explosive offensively and the Bulldogs have allowed almost as many points as they’ve scored this season. Even on the road, Geelong gets the emphatic win.

Port Adelaide (10-3-0) vs. Sydney Swans (4-8-0)

Port Adelaide sits atop the AFL ladder with 894 points scored and 706 points allowed defensively. The Power have won four of their last five and got back in the win column following their stunning round 12 blowout loss by getting past Hawthorn 68-58 at home on Saturday. Sydney is is 16th place in the 18-team standings with 620 points scored and 759 points allowed defensively. The Swans have lost three of their last four and come into this affair off a pitiful 50-19 road loss against 13th place Fremantle on Saturday. While Port Adelaide hasn’t exactly been setting the place on fire lately, they are by far, the better team in this matchup at both ends of the pitch. With Brisbane in second place, but tied with an identical 10-3 record, this is a matchup that Port Adelaide can’t afford to slip up in.
