Expert Boxing Betting Picks – January 8th Edition

Written by on January 8, 2018

While much of the attention in the world of sports is on the NFL playoffs, there is some big boxing betting action going down this week, giving you the opportunity to flex your wagering muscle. Speaking of muscles, we have 3 huge fights on tap this coming week, starting in the wee hours of Wednesday morning in Australia with a 12-round Middleweight battle between a pair of ring veterans. From there, we will head to Latvia and New York, once again proving that boxing is indeed a global sport. Let’s take a closer look inside each of these 3 fights boxing odds, and some predictions for each one.

Expert Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – January 8th Edition

Tommy Browne vs. Anthony Mundine

  • When: Wednesday, January 10
  • Where: NSW, Australia
  • Boxing Betting Odds: Browne (+265) / Mundine (-325)
This one is set to go in the very early hours of Wednesday morning, with the fight scheduled for 5 AM EST in NSW, Australia. These are a pair of fighters who are in the twilight of their career, with Browne aged 34 and Mundine really pushing it at 42. Despite his advancing years, Mundine is ranked 22nd in the middleweight division, but he also knows that a loss here will end any shot he has at going after the title currently held by Billy Joe Saunders. Browne comes into this one unbeaten in his last 10, and another win here would put him right in line with a potential title bout. The longer this one goes, the more it falls in favor of the younger Browne. I think we are on upset alert here, as I like Browne to win.

Lamont Peterson vs. Errol Spence Jr.

  • When: Saturday, January 13
  • Where: New York, United States
  • Boxing Betting Odds: Peterson (+1120) / Spence Jr. (-2080)
Let’s jump ahead now to Saturday night in Brooklyn, NY for an IBF Welterweight title bout. This will be the first title defense for Spence, who has put together an unblemished 22-0 pro record that includes a staggering 19 KO’s. Spence is just 28 years old and is making some real noise in the boxing world, with some fight folks ready to declare him the best in the world right now. Errol Spence Jr should be one of your Boxing Betting Picks of the Week. He will be up against Lamont Peterson, who comes in with a 35-3-1 record, which includes 17 KO’s. Peterson should put up a good fight here, but I still like Spence to finish this one in the middle rounds with a KO.

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis

  • When: Saturday, January 13
  • Where: Riga, Latvia
  • Boxing Betting Odds: Usyk (-850) / Briedis (+575)
Next one up is a WBC Cruiserweight title fight between Usyk and Briedis that will be held on Saturday night at 5 PM EST in Riga, Latvia. Usyk is the current title holder, and this will be his 4th defense of the title. He has a 13-0 record, with 11 of those wins coming via KO. He had a fantastic year in 2017 and is looking to carry that over into the New Year with another win. Briedis is certainly a worthy challenger, as he comes in with a 23-0 record that includes 18 KO’s. Both men bring a lot of power into the ring, but this is one that could well go the distance. Let’s take Usyk to defend his title via decision. Given the odds that the Errol Spence Jr. fight is going off at, betting that one as a single might not be the best way to boost your bankroll. I would put these three fights onto a parlay ticket, using a round robin approach if you are a little concerned about the outcome of one of the other two fights. As always, best of luck.
