Mayweather vs. McGregor Fight Last Thoughts

Written by on August 23, 2017

Las Vegas has hosted more than its fair share of prize fights over the years, but this coming Saturday, August 26, the city in the desert will host an event that is unlike anything we have ever seen before. Saturday night is when unbeaten Floyd Mayweather will take on the unlikeliest of opponents in the form of Conor McGregor, a fighter who has made his name as a brawler in the UFC and that is dominating the boxing betting lines for this fight, even when he’s heading to this match as a big time underdog. The hype and promotion of this fight has been almost non-stop since the day it was announced, to the point where even people who don’t care about boxing or MMA are going to tune in and watch. The latest development has been the approval of 8 oz. gloves for the fight as opposed to the 10 oz. gloves that are normally worn, but is that a decision that will have any sort of impact on how the fight goes? Let’s take a look at this exclusive match’s here.

Which Fighter Has the Most to Lose or Gain?

Floyd Mayweather is coming into this fight with a perfect 49-0 record, not to mention the label of arguably being one of the best boxers to ever step into the ring. He has made countless millions both in and out of the ring, and while his reputation outside of boxing is not as squeaky clean as you would like, you cannot deny that he is the best in the business right now. All of that makes it a little surprising that he took on this fight, as he really has nothing to gain from it, other than another massive pay day. If he loses this one, though, his reputation as one of the best is going to be somewhat tarnished. Even if he wins, he is still going to have his ability questioned, unless of course he pummels McGregor and gets this thing over in short order.

As for McGregor, he really has nothing to lose by taking on this fight. The trash talking Irishman would see his stock rise dramatically if he were to deliver Mayweather the only loss in his professional career, and you would need to wonder if he would ditch the Octagon and stay in the boxing ring on a permanent basis after a win. On the other side, if he gets beaten, it will be just as everyone expected. After all, he is the fighter that is being asked to change his style to accommodate this fight. Again, though, it might also come down to the nature of defeat if McGregor does lose. If he is taken out in the first couple of rounds, he may look like a bit of a fool after all his lofty claims of being able to win this one without even breaking a sweat.

Mayweather Vs McGregor Fight Prediction

Mayweather is the overwhelming favorite to win this one, with the current odds set at -500, while Connor McGregor is listed at +375. In my opinion, these odds are more than fair, although I think I would be looking for some more value when playing Mayweather to win. Mayweather is the overwhelming favorite to win this one, with the current odds set at -500, while Connor McGregor is listed at +375. I think that value comes in the O/U, which is currently set at 9 ½ rounds. I don’t think this one gets beyond the 4th, as I like Floyd Mayweather to close it out in round 3 or 4. The UNDER is listed at -180, which is a much better price than you are getting for taking the straight up win. One of the great things about this fight from a bettors standpoint is the number of prop bets that are currently available. There is a real opportunity to have a lot of fun, while making some money in the process. If you are not really into wagering in the fight itself, why not take a look at some of those props, almost all of which are Yes or No, or Over/Under type wagers. It’s a great way to enjoy the fight even if it turns out to be a dud.
