The 2017 NCAAF season is almost upon us, and that means that it’s time to break out the old crystal ball and make some predictions. Since these are of the BOLD variety, there is a very good chance that I am going to misfire on a few, but that is part of the fun of being in the prediction business. Alabama will miss out on the National Championship
The Crimson Tide have been dominant under Nick Saban, but their luck has to run out at one point or another, so why not this season? They have a brutal opening week game against Florida State, and if they drop that one, the need only lose one other game, most likely against an SEC West foe to be on the outside looking in at the playoffs.Nick Chubb will win the Heisman
The smart money is on Baker Mayfield to take home the trophy this season, but I think it will head in the direction of Georgia. Kevin Sumlin will be the first coach fired this NCAAF Season
I am talking about coaches of major programs here, and I believe that Sumlin is in real danger of not making it out of this season alive. There is a better than average chance that Texas A&M will be the worst team in the SEC West, and that could spell doom for the head coach.Clemson will struggle this NCAAF Season
Struggling is a relative term when talking about a team like Clemson. The defending champions lost a lot of key players to the NFL in the draft, and it is going to be tough for them to come out and defend their crown with a lot of new guys on the field. Clemson will not make the playoffs.The ACC may miss out on the playoff altogether
If Clemson do indeed struggle, then the logical choice to represent the ACC in the postseason would be Florida State. As already mentioned, they start with a game against Alabama, and a loss there would put them under incredible pressure the rest of the way.Thomas Tyner will lead the PAC-12 in rushing
No-one expects the Oregon State Beavers to be particularly good this season, but they do have an ace in the hole in the form of RB Thomas Tyner. He transferred in from Oregon, and is ready to start after missing the last 2 seasons with injury. Tyner will be strong, fresh, and ready to prove the doubters wrong.Watch out for West Virginia
The Mountaineers are coming off a solid 10-3 season, and while they lost some key players, they did manage to add Will Grier from Florida at the QB spot. There is a chance that 10 wins could be on the cards again, and if they can stretch that to 11, the playoff committee is going to need to pay attention.
