Ohio State rises while UGA and Notre Dame drop on AP Poll

The College Football Playoff most definitely wants to include Ohio State. How else to explain the Buckeyes jumping to third after beating Nebraska 52-17, leapfrogging a now 5-0 Notre Dame Irish squad that put a 45-3 beating onto the Pittsburgh Panthers?

Sure, the win over Nebraska looked good, but Notre Dame has destroyed opponents this season. Not only that, but the Buckeyes didn’t take a knee and instead padded the win to impress the Associated Press voters. Hey, it worked, which is why both ND and Georgia are on the cusp of getting knocked out.

Notre Dame battles Clemson on Nov. 7. A win assures their participation in the ACC Championship unless a team upsets them. A loss knocks them out of any chance at the CFP for the foreseeable future.

Fifth ranked Georgia had a bye. The Bulldogs must win the SEC East and then hope to beat Alabama in the CFP, pray that Ohio State goes undefeated and that Clemson dominates Notre Dame twice.

All of that is likely except for UGA going undefeated the rest of the way and then upsetting Bama in the SEC Championship. The next two weeks will tell. The Dawgs face Kentucky on Halloween. A week later, they battle the Florida Gators.

Oklahoma State has a much tougher path than either Notre Dame or Georgia. The reason? Even if the Cowboys go undefeated, they may not get into the College Football Playoff. Oklahoma State is the only team in the Big 12 without a loss. Kansas State, who is 4-0 in the conference, lost their first game of the season to Kansas

The Big 12 is a mess. So, even if the Cowboys run the table, they may not get the nod ahead of a one loss Georgia or one loss Notre Dame squad.

Bama loses Waddle for the season but rolls the Vols

Alabama dominated the Tennessee Volunteers, beating the Vols 48-17 on the road. Bama’s offense rivals Clemson’s, which is why Crimson Tide fans shouldn’t worry that they lost their best wide receiver, Jaylen Waddle.

A few years ago, Nick Saban changed his coaching philosophy. He knew that no matter how good your defense was, it couldn’t dominate fast offenses. Saban has made it a priority to recruit top-class wide receivers, which is why the program has produced Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, Henry Ruggs III, Jerry Jeudy, and Calvin Ridley. All five were first round NFL Draft picks.

Alabama has Mississippi State on Halloween before finishing the season at LSU, versus Kentucky, versus Auburn, and at Arkansas. Don’t be surprised if Bama covers in every one of those games.

Clemson still number one, watch out for Wisconsin

Clemson is number one, but the Wisconsin Badgers are in a prime position to move up the AP Rankings. The Badgers’ lone difficult matchup is against Michigan on Nov. 14. If Wisconsin beats the Wolverines, consider them a contender for the National Championship.

They’re almost a shoo-in to win the Big Ten West, which means they get a crack at Ohio State. A win over the Buckeyes, or a close, impressive loss while both Oklahoma State has at least one loss and Notre Dame and Georgia have a couple, could put Wisconsin into the CFP.

The Wisconsin Badgers have become this season’s best underdog to win the title.

Have a great week!
