NASCAR 2022 Cup Series: YellaWood 500 Betting Favorites & Odds Analysis

Written by on September 30, 2022

It has been a crazy start to the Cup Series playoffs, as we are 4 races deep and have yet to see a playoff driver win a race. We are now in the Round of 12, with 2 more races to come before the field is cut to 8. This strange run has created havoc with the drivers looking to win it all, with the likes of Chae Elliott now down closer to the cut line than he would like to be at this late stage of the season. The next couple of races are going to be absolutely huge, with drivers jockeying for position and looking to avoid elimination. This Sunday, the focus will shirt to Talladega and the running of the YellaWood 500, with the pressure really begin to pile on the drivers. Let’s take a look at the current NASCAR Odds.

NASCAR Cup Series Betting Preview for the 2022 YellaWood 500 Race

Chase Elliott (+1200)

It has been an up and down season for Elliott, with the bad news being that he is currently in a downturn. He has not been great in the playoffs, with a 32nd place run in Texas in the last race among the worst showings of the season. As we mentioned earlier, he is now down in 7th in the standings and is sitting a little too close to that cut line for comfort. Elliott is more than good enough to snap out of this and get on a roll, just as he did recently with 3 wins in 5 races. This, though, is not a track where he has had a lot of success over the years, but I would not be surprised to see him put in a great run this weekend.

Denny Hamlin (+1225)

After a quiet regular season, Hamlin has come to life in the playoffs, finishing in the top 10 in all 4 races to this point. That has him sitting in the top 5 in the driver standings, but as we mentioned earlier, things are tight down near the cut line, so he really needs to maintain that level to move on and make a deep run. He is very much worth a look here, as he won this race in 2020 and was top 10 last year. Even if you don’t like him to win, he might be a very good top 5 bet for this race.

Joey Logano (+1225)

The odds for this race are great, mainly because no one has taken the playoffs by the scruff of the neck to this point It has been unpredictability from the off, so even though Logano has just 2 wins on the year, why can’t he go out and win this one? He won at Talladega, back-to-back, in 2015 and 2016 and had a 3rd place run in this race last season. At these odds, I’d be willing to wager a few bucks that he might win this one.

Ryan Blaney (+1225)

Of the drivers currently occupying the top 8 spots in the driver standings, Blaney is the only one who hasn’t won a race this season. Despite that, he is still sitting in the #5 spot, but now would be the perfect time for that first win. He won at Talladega in 2019, but he hasn’t made much of an impact on that track since. Strange things are happening in these playoffs, so why not Blaney on Sunday?
