2023 DP World Tour Odds: Open de Espana Betting Preview

The DP World Tour makes its first of two consecutive stops in the country of Spain this month for the 2023 acciona Open de Espana presented by Madrid. The Spain Open is played at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid in Madrid, Spain. Tournament play begins on Thursday, October 12th, and concludes on Sunday, October 15th.

World no. 3 Jon Rahm will tee it up this week, looking to grab his country’s fourth Open title. Rahm is the defending champion and has won the event in three of the last four tries. Last season, the 28-year-old lapped the field, defeating Matthieu Pavon by six shots.

Spain Open tournament play begins on Thursday, September 12th, and concludes on Sunday, September 15th. That said, let’s take a closer look at the upcoming acciona Open de Espana tournament so you can bet against the European Open betting lines.

2023 Open de Espana | 95th edition of the acciona Open de Espana
Thursday, October 12th – Sunday, October 15th, 2023
Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Defending Champion: Jon Rahm

Club de Campo Villa de Madrid

The club was formed nearly 100 years ago in 1929, with the Black course opening in 1956. Javier Arana designed the layout, and the course has played host to numerous other prominent Spanish golf tournaments.

The course measures approximately 7,150 yards in length and plays as a par-71 on the scorecard. The opening par-4 reaches over 500 yards, while a pair of the par 3s eclipse 200 yards. All three par 5s are reachable in two if the players find the short-grass off the tee, creating eagle and birdie opportunities.

Rahm’s four-day total of 259 (25-under par) set both the aggregate and to-par tournament scoring records last year. Players in the field will have to shoot around 20-under if they want a shot at the title.

Who’s in the Field

Rahm headlines the field, but the Spanish Open also features a handful of well-known European golfers. Justin Rose, fresh off a victory as a member of the European Ryder Cup, returns to action this week. Joining Rose is a pair of European vice-captains in Thomas Bjorn and Edoardo Molinari.

Spanish golfers Pablo Larrazabal and Rafa Cabrara Bello will tee it up in their nation’s Open. Joining them in action this week include Victor Perez and Alex Fitzpatrick, the brother of Matthew Fitzpatrick.

acciona Open de Espana Betting Favorites and Predictions

Rahm (+204) is the heavy betting favorite to win the tournament for the fourth time in five tries. The Masters champion collected four victories on the PGA Tour this season but is looking to return to the winner’s circle for the first time since his Masters triumph in the spring.

Rose (+1350) trails behind Rahm and is our prediction to win this week. The 43-year-old picked up his 11th career PGA win earlier this year and finished inside the top 25 in 11 of 20 events played. We expect Rose to continue his solid play this week and edge Rahm down the stretch on Sunday.

Yannik Paul (+2300) comes in well behind the top two favorites. The German golfer picked up his lone DP World Tour win last season in Spain at the Mallorca Golf Open. Paul comes in ranked 15th in the Race to Dubai standings.

Rounding out the betting favorites are Joost Luiten (+2800) and Adrian Otaegui (+2800). Joost is a six-time winner on the European circuit, while Otaegui is a Spanish native and winner of the 2022 Andalucia Masters in Sotogrande, Spain.
