Which dark horse or longshot has the best chance at winning the 2019 Preakness Stakes?

The lowest-odds dark horse has the best chance of winning the 2019 Preakness Stakes. There’s a lot to like about Owendale. In fact, he offers excellent odds at +1200. Owendale’s fair odds are closer to +600 than +1200.

Fist, he’s trained by Brad Cox. Cox has 83 first place, 72 second place, and 45 third place finishes from 331 starters this year. His horses have already pocketed over $4.6 million. Cox is on fire with everything he sends to the racetrack.

Second, Owendale’s sire, Into Mischief, is one of the top sires in the nation. Into Mischief charges $150,000 for each live foal. Rupp Racing purchased Owendale for $200,000 at the 2017 Keeneland September Sale. He’s bred to be a champion.

Finally, Owendale’s got an incredible turn of foot. He ran right by Anothertwistafate to win the Grade 3 Lexington after chasing a 24.1 quarter-mile and 48.1 half-mile. He should have more pace to chase on Saturday. Owendale deserves a lot of attention to win the Preakness Stakes.

Which horse among Signalman, Bodexpress, and Warrior’s Charge has the best chance at Preakness Stakes glory?

Of the +1500 choices, Signalman deserves a long look. Bodexpress and Warrior’s Charge have an outside shot of winning on Saturday. But, some things must happen for either Bodexpress or Warrior’s Charge to end up in the winner’s circle.

Signalman could have a pace advantage on May 18. There doesn’t appear to be many confirmed front runners for this race. That means Signalman could get an easy lead. He’s listed as a presser, but he can run up front if nobody else wants to. If Signalman goes for it early, he could scare of the competition. If he relaxes enough, he can steal the Second Jewel.

Can Laughing Fox win the 2019 Preakness Stakes?

Yes, he could, but he must improve a lot. Laughing Fox is a closer that needs pace upfront. Not only that, but other closers, like Owendale, Win Win Win, and Bourbon War, have shown more ability.

Then again, Laughing Fox is trained by Steve Asmussen, Gun Runner’s trainer. Asmussen has won the Preakness Stakes twice with Rachel Alexandra and Curlin. Laughing Fox has a chance. He’s more likely to clunk up for third or fourth than win on Saturday, though. Use him in the exotics. Maybe, even put a few bucks on him to win. Just don’t put too much on him to win.
