It has been a crushing week for the Raiders franchise with former first-round wide receiver Henry Ruggs III released after being charged with a felony DUI resulting in the death of a woman in Vegas early Tuesday. Series History

It’s is the 14th regular season clash meeting between the teams with the Raiders leading 8-5. The teams faced-off in Week 13 of the 2017 season when Big Blue fell to the Raiders in Oakland, 24-17. The Giants have won three of the last four matchups against Las Vegas with their most recent win coming in East Rutherford on Nov. 10, 2013, by a score of 24-20.

Why Bet on Las Vegas?

The Raiders come off their bye and are 2-0 since Coach Jon Gruden stepped down. In Week 7, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr completed 31 of 34 pass attempts (91.2 percent) for 323 yards and two touchdowns with one interception for a 113.6 rating in the team’s win. Carr’s 91.2 completion percentage ranks as the second-highest single-game mark all-time in games in which a quarterback attempted at least 30 passes. Only Drew Brees (96.7 percent on Dec. 16, 2019) had a higher single-game completion percentage.

Among head coaches that took over their teams during a season, the Raiders’ Rich Bisaccia has an opportunity to become the first head coach to win his first three games since Gary Moeller took over in midseason and led the Lions to three straight wins in 2000.

As noted above, the Raiders released leading receiver and 2020 first-round pick Henry Ruggs III this week and he’s looking at many years in prison. Ruggs was driving an astonishing 156 mph with a blood alcohol content twice Nevada’s legal limit before his car slammed into the rear of a vehicle that burned, killing a 23-year-old woman early Tuesday, according to prosecutors. Probation is not an option in Nevada for a conviction on a charge of DUI causing death or DUI causing substantial bodily injury.

Ruggs had 24 catches for 469 yards and two scores this season. Zay Jones should take Ruggs’ spot as the Raiders’ “Z” receiver. Playing 21 percent of the Raiders’ offensive snaps this year, Jones has made a few splash plays — including a game-winning touchdown in Week 1 — averaging 19.2 yards on seven receptions.

Tight end Darren Waller, who missed the Week 7 matchup against the Eagles with an ankle injury, returned to full practice this week, as did running back Josh Jacobs, who had reportedly sustained a chest injury in the Week 7 game.

Why Bet on NY Giants?

The Giants played well Monday but lost 20-17 in Kansas City. The Chiefs rallied behind two fourth-quarter field goals from Harrison Butker, including the go-ahead 34-yarder with 1:07 left. New York played without top running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver Kenny Golladay. WRs Sterling Shepard (quad) and Dante Pettis (shoulder) left in the second quarter and fellow wideout Kadarius Toney departed in the fourth quarter with a thumb injury.

Daniel Jones completed 22-of-32 passes for 222 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He took a very untimely sack on the final drive to put the Giants in 3rd-and-15 before a pair of incompletions to seal the loss. Jones has played a lot better this season, but he still makes mistakes.

Golladay (knee) returned to Giants practice Thursday for the first time since Week 5.  It gives Golladay a puncher’s chance of returning against the Raiders. Shepard, Toney and Pettis are iffy.  Barkley remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but did have a negative PCR result.  If Barkley can shake the list with two more negative results in back-to-back days and recover from his ankle injury, he could suit up on Sunday.

Both the Giants and the Raiders have struggled to get their running games going – New York is 26th in rushing, while Las Vegas is 29th – and their run defenses are struggling just as much as the Giants are giving up 123.3 ypg and the Raiders giving up 131.3 ypg.

The Giants offense ranks 20th in total offense (345.8 ypg), 12th in passing (256.5 ypg), 26th in rushing (89.3 ypg) and tied for 24th in points (19.5 points). Defensively, the Giants rank 23rd in total defense (368.6 ypg), 17th in passing (245.4 ypg), 23rd in rushing (123.3 ypg) and 23rd in points allowed (25.0 ppg).

The Giants enter Week 9 ranked 31st in the league in red zone offense, scoring touchdowns on 11 of 23 trips. Las Vegas has allowed touchdowns on 15 of 18 opponent trips inside the red zone, with its 83.3 percentage ranking 31st. Their last time on the field, the Raiders allowed the Philadelphia Eagles to score on three of its four chances.
