2017 MLB Expert Predictions Texas At Boston

Written by on May 23, 2017

In baseball, perhaps more than any other professional sport, we are all a little too quick at passing judgement on teams without having very much to go on. Just a couple of weeks ago, you would have undoubtedly seen numerous headlines and op-ed pieces stating that the Texas Rangers were a disaster, and that their season was over before it even began. I’ve always believed that we should skip making any sort of broad sweeping statement about a team prior to Memorial Day, and the Texas Rangers have once again proven that thought to be true.

They are the hottest team in baseball at the moment, and while they are still sitting a good way off the pace in the AL West, they have plenty of time left to close the gap. Next up is a road trip to Boston and a big series versus the Red Sox, a team that needs to pick up the pace a bit if they want to keep up with the Yankees and the Orioles in the AL East.

Why bet on the Texas Rangers

The Rangers (24-21) were sitting in the basement of the AL West not so very long ago, but have now clawed their way up to second, albeit still 6 games back of the division leading Houston Astros. The Rangers got there by reeling off 10 straight wins, winning 4 straight series during that run. The bats suddenly got hot, and the pitching was right where we expected it would be. Texas now leads the league in quality starts at 27, and they have climbed into the top 10 with a 3.79 team ERA. Almost all of the wins that they had during their great run came at home, so it’s going to be interesting to see ow they handle the road, where they are currently just 8-13. Martin Perez (2-5, 3.71 ERA) will get the start on Wednesday night. Why bet on the Texas Rangers

Why bet on the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox (22-21) have been one of the more infuriating teams to follow during the first two months of the season. Inconsistency has been a major issue for them, as they seem to raise their game against the better teams before looking sloppy against lesser opposition. Proof in point is their last two series, where they sweep the St. Louis Cardinals, only to follow that by losing 3 of 4 to the Oakland A’s. The Red Sox have been a little better at home than on the road, going 12-9 at Fenway Park. Chris Sale (4-2, 2.19 ERA) will be on the mound for the Red Sox.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Rangers are riding a serious wave of momentum right now, and while this pitching match-up would appear to favor Boston, I believe it will be Texas who come away with the win.
