Los Angeles Vs Boston MLB Betting Preview

Written by on July 1, 2016

With so much money routinely thrown around in baseball, it’s hard for any team to experience a long stretch of dominance. At any given time, it feels as though half of the MLB teams are in some state of rebuilding, while the other half go all in by throwing money around like crazy people. This tends to lead to some sleeping giants being created, which is a tag that seems to fit very nicely with the Boston Red Sox at the moment. They had a very nice few years in the sun recently, but have been propping up the AL East for the past couple of seasons. They are very much in the hunt this season, and will spend this weekend hosting an LA Angels team that looks to be very much on the slide. The Red Sox should be the betting odds favorites for the Saturday night game, as well as the whole series. Let’s take a closer look at the current form of these two teams.

Los Angeles Angels Vs Boston Red Sox MLB Betting Preview

Why bet on the LA Angels

If you were to look for the definition of a one-man team, you would have to take a look at the LA Angels (32-47). While Mike Trout has been doing his usual bang up job and padding his offensive stats, the rest of the team has been in a swoon. The Angels are dead last in the AL West, and are sinking like a stone. They have only 1 win in their last 10 games, and now find themselves 18.5 games back of the division leading Texas Rangers. Pitching has been a major issue for this team all year, and their 4.57 team ERA has them near the bottom of the pack. The Angels will send Hector Santiago (4-4, 5.27 ERA) to the mound on Saturday night.

Why bet on the Boston Red Sox

While the Red Sox (42-36) are still very much in the hunt in the AL East, their 11-15 record in June has seen them fall off the pace a little. The good news for the Red Sox is that they may be getting the right opponent at just the right time. Not only are the Angels really struggling at the moment, Boston has also had some real success versus teams from the West, going 11-5 against them to this point in the season. They are also a much better team at home, and have compiled a 23-18 record at Fenway. A win in this series might help them finish off the first half strong. Clay Buchholz (3-8, 5.90 ERA) will get the start for Boston.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

While I do think that the Red Sox will get the win here, I also think this might be a close one. I’m giving it to Boson, but only just.
