Why Bet on Seattle?

The Mariners had a sizable wild-card lead not long ago, but Oakland is rampaging right behind Seattle now. The M’s are 3-2 since the break, splitting two interleague home games with the Giants to open this week. Seattle won the finale 3-2 before heading out on the road. Ryon Healy blasted his 21st homer Wednesday. Healy cranked a solo shot off Derek Holland in the second, then followed that up with a two-out base hit in the fourth. The 26-year-old is now four homers away from matching his career-high of 25, a mark he set last season while playing for the A’s. Jean Segura delivered a go-ahead single in Wednesday’s win. Segura drove in the game’s first run with a first-inning sac fly, then broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth with a single to center field off the Giants’ Sam Dyson. That extended the shortstop’s hitting streak to eight games. Segura ranks fourth in the American League in batting average (.321) and is also tied for 11th in the AL with 15 stolen bases. Edwin Diaz hurled a scoreless ninth inning for his 38th save Wednesday. He struck out the side on 14 pitches. The 24-year-old hasn’t allowed an earned run in over a month and is currently on pace for 60 saves, which would be the second-highest total in league history. Diaz sports a 15.0 K/9 across 51 appearances this year. He’s a big reason why Seattle has yet to lose a game it led in the eighth inning. It’s lefty Wade LeBlanc (6-1, 3.44) here. LeBlanc limited the White Sox to one run over 7 1/3 innings and fanned 10 in a victory over the White Sox on Friday. LeBlanc matched his career high for strikeouts; he also fanned 10 against the Dodgers on Sept. 23, 2011. The 15 starts he’s made this season are the second highest total of his career; he made 25 for the Padres in 2010. Against the Angels in his career, LeBlanc is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA (3 ER, 12.0 IP) in two starts, both this season. He last faced the Angels on July 3, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4 in 7.0 innings pitched.

Why Bet on LA Angels?

The Halos closed a series Thursday at home vs. the White Sox looking for a four-game split. In Wednesday’s 11-3 win, Albert Pujols went 3-for-4 with a homer and a stolen base. Pujols now has 17 homers on the season. When he took James Shields deep in the second inning, he also passed Ken Griffey Jr. with his 631 homers, and he’s now sixth on the all-time list. Willie Mays is next with 660. Pujols is on pace for 27 homers and 85 RBI in the 2018 season. Not bad for 37. Mike Trout went 3-for-3 with two homers in the win and he has 28 bombs on the year. Trout also doubled, and his season line now sits at .311/.460/.621 with 19 steals and 58 RBI over 103 games. Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk. Mariners vs Angels it's one of the best games for Friday Night. The Angels have clearly waived the white flag on this season as they have traded starting catcher Martin Maldonado, a Gold Glover, to Houston for LHP Patrick Sandoval and $250,000 in international bonus pool money. Sandoval, 21, has a 2.56 ERA, 0.966 WHIP, and 97/15 K/BB ratio in 88 innings this season in Class A ball. To replace Maldonado, the Halos called up C Francisco Arcia from Triple-A Salt Lake. Arcia will back up Jose Briceno, who has been vaulted into the starting catcher role. It’s lefty Andrew Heaney (6-6, 3.66) here. Heaney got the win against the Astros on Sunday, giving up one earned run on four hits over six innings while striking out four and walking two as the Angels cruised to a 14-5 victory. Heaney held up his end of the bargain with his fourth straight quality start. He is 6-1 with a 1.33 ERA in his last eight home outings.
