Why Bet On Seattle

The Mariners have won three of four and leads the majors in scoring. Seattle will also have some motivation to get back in the win column after having their three-game winning streak snapped in Sunday’s 8-6 loss against the Angels. Mitch Haniger and Tom Murphy each had a double, home run and two RBI in the loss while Mike Leake gave up four runs on six hits in just 4.0 innings to take the loss. Right-hander Erik Swanson might be 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA, but he looked great in limiting Cleveland to one run on two hits in 6.0 innings of a 1-0 loss against the Tribe in his last start on Wednesday.

Why Bet On San Diego

Padres Looking For Consistency as Explosive Mariners Visit Town

The Padres are desperate and they’re back at home after snapping a six-game losing streak the last time out. San Diego managed to get past  Cincinnati 4-3 in their series finale on Sunday to avoid the sweep. Team batting leader Wil Myers had a double and two RBIs while Austin Hedges added a solo homer in the win. Right-hander Joey Lucchesi limited the Reds to one run in 5.2 innings to get the win while Kirby Yates picked up his 10th save of the season. Left-hander Nick Margevicius will make his first career start against Seattle after getting pounded for five earned runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings against Colorado in his last start.

  • Runs/G: 3.35
  • Hits /G: 7.17

Expert Analysis and Prediction

I know San Diego is playing at home, but for me, Seattle is clearly offering the best value in this matchup. First of all, the Padres have looked awful in losing six straight until snapping that skid by eking out a win the last time out. San Diego was limited to two runs or less in five straight and the NL West playoff hopefuls are ranked an uninspiring 27th in scoring (3.35 rpg).

On the flip side of the coin, Seattle has scored at least five runs in each of their last four games while scoring six or more three times while putting 11 runs on the board once. Not only that, but the Mariners lead the majors in runs per game, (6.40 rpg), OPS (.859) and home runs (56).

More importantly, Seattle has gone an incendiary 10-1 in their last 11 road games, a scorching 8-2 in their last 10 games against a left-handed starter and 12-3 in their last 15 after scoring five runs or more in their previous game. With San Diego going 3-8 in their last 11 Inter-league home games, 4-11 in their last 15 Inter-league games against a right-handed starter and 2-6 in their last 8 inter-league home games against a right-handed starter, all the value in this one lies with Seattle.
