Why Bet on Pittsburgh?
The Pirates could be looking for their 12th straight win here. On Monday, they shelled Indians All-Star starter and two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber in a 7-0 win in six innings for their 10th straight win. Josh Harrison hit a three-run homer and Gregory Polanco had a two-run triple off Kluber. Harrison played for the first time since July 15 because of a sore hamstring. Starling Marte extended his career-high hitting streak to 16 games with two hits and two RBI. Corey Dickerson, who had homered in four straight games, was 1 for 3 with a walk. Kluber (12-6), starting for the first time since July 12 because of a sore right knee, was charged with seven runs — three earned — in four innings. Pittsburgh’s outfielders rank first among National League teams in OPS (.838), slugging (.501) and batting average (.283) and second in home runs (53). It’s Pittsburgh’s first double-digit winning streak since June 26-July 5, 2004. It’s also the longest in the National League this season; two N.L. teams won at least 10 straight games last year (Arizona won 13 in a row while the Dodgers won 11 in a row and 10 in a row. A victory Tuesday would have given the Bucs their first 11-game winning streak since September 12-22, 1996. The Pirates have won each of their last seven games against American League opponents. The club’s longest winning streak in interleague history is eight games, which took place from May 28 to June 26, 2013. Pittsburgh’s 11 wins this season are also tied for the most in interleague play along with the A’s. It’s Jameson Taillon (7-7, 3.80) on the mound. Taillon surrendered one run on six hits and one walk while striking out six across 5.1 innings Friday as he notched the win over the Reds. Taillon gave up a run in the sixth inning, but he’d exit the ballgame with a five-run lead. Following his most recent outing, Taillon has logged three consecutive quality starts, as he’s decreased his ERA from 4.05 to 3.80 over that span. After a rough end to April and struggling in May, Taillon is now 5-3 in his last nine starts. Taillon has never faced the Indians. He has gone 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA (53.1ip/20er) in nine career starts during interleague play; is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA (14.2ip/11er) this year after beating the Twins on 4/2 at PNC Park and losing to the Tigers on 4/25 at PNC Park. Why Bet on Cleveland?
The Indians have transferred star lefty reliever Andrew Miller from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. The move enables the newly-claimed Johnny Field to be added to the 40-man roster. It doesn’t change Miller’s timetable at all. He’s eligible to return on Wednesday, though he’s still rehabbing his knee in the minors for the time being. However, outfielder Bradley Zimmer will be out 8-12 months after undergoing arthroscopic surgery. The surgery didn’t come as a surprise, but the timetable is certainly a shock. It’s a disappointing end to a season that held much promise for the 25-year-old. At this point, it’s not fair to assume he’ll be ready for the start of the 2019 season. It’s All-Star Trevor Bauer here. Bauer (8-6, 2.44) tossed four innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and five walks while fanning seven as he didn’t factor into the decision Friday against the Rangers. Bauer struggled with his command, walking a season-high five batters through just four frames. He failed to record an out in the fifth inning after surrendering an RBI single to Robinson Chirinos. Bauer’s most recent performance is certainly an outlier, as he’d strung together eight straight quality starts prior to Friday’s outing. In his career, the righty has an 8.27 ERA in five starts directly after the break. Bauer is due to face the Pirates for the second time in his career. He earned the win on July 3, 2015, in Pittsburgh, holding the Pirates to two runs on three hits (one home run), with one walk and three strikeouts. This outing will mark his fourth Interleague start of the season. He has compiled a 2-0 mark and 0.44 ERA (1ER/20.2IP) in his three prior starts. Bauer owns a career 9-5 record and 2.66 ERA (42ER/142.1IP) in 24 Interleague appearances (23 starts Bauer has a 2.66 ERA in 24 career Interleague outings.Latest MLB Betting Trends
