Why Bet on Colorado?
The Rockies lost three of four to open this week in St. Louis to fall to 58-50. Wade Davis took his fifth blown save and fourth loss after giving up two runs in the ninth Thursday against the Cardinals. Davis got the first batter he faced, only to give up three straight hits afterward. While he leads the NL with 31 saves, his ERA sits at 4.57 after this. NL MVP candidate Nolan Arenado went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and also worked a walk Wednesday. He hit an RBI-double to plate Charlie Blackmon in the ninth inning but it was too little, too late for the Rockies. Arenado could threaten for a Triple Crown with a late-season surge. He has a .308/.392/.596 slash line with 28 homers and 80 RBI. He leads the National League in home runs and is third in RBI. He trails NL batting average leader Nick Markakis by just 11 points. Since June 19, the Rockies rank second in the NL and third in MLB with a .276 team batting average and rank second in the NL (tied for fourth in MLB) with 53 home runs. They rank second in the NL and fifth in MLB with 5.31 runs per game over that span. The Rockies also activated second baseman DJ LeMahieu off the DL for Thursday’s game. To make room, the team optioned INF Garrett Hampson to Triple-A Albuquerque. Hampson played well during his short stay at the major league level, batting .300/.417/.450 across 24 plate appearances. It’s German Marquez (9-8, 4.82) on the mound for Colorado. In his first outing since the birth of his first child, Marquez) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits (two homers) and a walk while striking out eight in the 3-2 victory over Oakland. Both Matt Chapman and Khris Davis took Marquez deep with solo shots, but he threw a pretty clean outing besides those two blemishes. The 23-year-old has earned a win in four of his last five starts, dropping his season ERA from 5.53 to 4.82 since his last loss on June 24. Marquez is 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA (16.1 IP, 11 ER) combined over three previous starts vs. Milwaukee but has never pitched at Miller Park. He lost to the Brewers on May 10, 5-2.Why Bet on Milwaukee?
The Brewers closed a series at the Dodgers on Thursday looking to win three of four. Jonathan Schoop made his Brewers debut on Wednesday after being traded from Baltimore and hit cleanup. The right-handed hitter has 17 homers this year but is hitting just .244 with a .273 on-base percentage over 86 games. Lorenzo Cain went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple on Wednesday in an extra-inning loss. Cain came up just short of the cycle, in this case literally as his drive in the ninth inning was caught near the wall. He started things off right with a triple that turned into a homer as he scored on an error on the throw to third by Brian Dozier. While he hasn’t hit for much power in 2018 — he’s on pace for 12 homers this year — his .299 average and .399 on-base percentage along with 19 steals are very solid. The Brewers are 30-27 on the road as of Thursday, going 9-6-2 in series play. They had a season-high 5-game road winning streak from 4/30-5/11 and a season-high 6-game road losing streak from 7/11-7/15. The team went 40-38 on the road last season, going 13-11-2 in series play. Milwaukee’s Junior Guerra (6-7, 3.43) starts here. He was burned by one bad inning against the Giants in his last start when he lost the strike zone and walked a trio of hitters ahead of Buster Posey’s bases-clearing triple. The team is 11-9 in Guerra’s starts and he has 8 quality starts. Opponents are batting .236 (95-for-402, 13hr). Guerra’s only career appearance vs. Colorado came on Opening Day last season on 4/3 at Miller Park. He had no decision in the 7-5 loss (3ip, 1h, 2r, 2er, 0bb, 4k, 1hr, 1hbp). Guerra left the game with a right calf strain and went on the disabled list the next day. Guerra has a 2.45 ERA in home games this year.Latest MLB Betting Trends
