Top MLB Series Odds for This Weekend

Written by on June 23, 2017

Believe it or not, this is the final full weekend of June – the last month without football. Well at least if you count NFL training camps as football. But with the NBA and NHL Drafts wrapping up, it’s a baseball- centric weekend. Here’s a look at the top MLB series odds for this coming weekend.

Top MLB Series Odds for This Weekend

Texas Rangers at New York Yankees

Where: Yankee Stadium TV: MLBN (out-of-market only), FSSW (Texas), YES (NY) Radio: 105.3 The FAN (Texas) / WFAN (660 AM) (NY) MLB Series Odds: Yankees -210 / Rangers +175 It’s two powerful offenses in this series and two questionable pitching staffs so I’d be leaning over what should be a fairly high total in at least two of the three games. The Rangers went 4-3 vs. NYY in 2016, winning the season series for the 2nd straight year and 3rd time in 4 campaigns. The club is 9-5 vs. Yankees in 2015-16, 5-2 in the Bronx in that span. The Yanks’ +107 run differential ranks third in the Majors to Los Angeles-NL (+120) and Houston (+117). They have not finished a season with a run differential above +100 since 2012 (+136). New York’s Aaron Judge has reached base safely in a career-best 23 consecutive games. That’s tied for the longest on-base streak by a Yankee this season.

How Well is Aaron Judge Doing This Season?

Judge is hitting .356/.468/.744 (32-for- 90) with nine HRs and 24 RBIs during it. The last longer single-season streak was Mark Teixeira’s 24-game streak from 7/8-8/7/15. Judge leads the Majors with 24 HRs. The Yanks led the Majors with 1.65 HR per game. NYY also leads the Majors with 5.71 runs per game. The only game I might go under would be Friday. Yu Darvish will be starting opposite Masahiro Tanaka in that one for the first time in MLB, but the duo met 4 times in the Japanese pro league in Tohoku/Hokkaido matchups. Darvish in those 4 meetings: 3-1, 1.36 (5 ER/33.0 IP). Tanaka in those 4 meetings: 1-3, 2.90 (10 ER/31.0 IP). Rangers win series.

Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays

Where: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg TV: MASN 2 (Baltimore) / Fox Sports Sun (Tampa Bay) Radio: 105.7 The Fan (Baltimore) / 95.3 FM (Tampa Bay) MLB Series Odds: Rays -200 / Orioles +170 The Rays have the advantage of having Thursday off, while Baltimore had to finish a home series with Cleveland and then travel. Tampa has won four of five to get three games over .500. It’s the second series between these two. The Orioles took two of three at home in April. On April 24, Baltimore won 6-3. Adam Jones hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning after Hyun Soo Kim and Jonathan Schoop went deep in the sixth, rallying Baltimore. All three home runs were off Rays ace Chris Archer, who gave up five runs, six hits and five walks in 6 2/3 innings and starts Friday. Archer is 3-7 with a 4.69 ERA (80.2-IP, 42-ER) in 14 career apps (13 starts) against the Orioles. The Orioles are underdogs in the MLB series odds against the Rays.

What Happened The Last Time These Two Teams Met?

On April 25, the Rays won 2-0. Substitute starter Austin Pruitt combined with four pitchers on a two-hitter. Tampa Bay pitchers retired 17 straight batters before Chris Davis drew a two-out walk in the ninth. Baltimore’s lone hits were a double by Jonathan Schoop in the second and an infield single by Davis in the fourth. And in the finale on April 26, the Orioles won 5-4 in 11 innings. Seth Smith drew a bases-loaded, four-pitch walk from Danny Farquhar to force in the deciding run with two outs in the 11th inning. Tim Beckham hit two solo homers for the Tampa Bay, but he also made one of the Rays' three errors. Rays win the series.

New York Mets at San Francisco Giants

Where: AT&T Park, San Francisco TV:  SNY, FOX (NY) / NBC Bay Area (San Francisco) Radio: 710 WOR-AM (NY) / KNBR 680 (San Francisco) MLB Series Odds: Giants -135 / Mets +115 The Mets took two of three at home vs. the Giants earlier this season. On May 8, New York won 4-3 on Neil Walker’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Alas, Walker is one of many Mets currently on the DL. Hunter Pence’s two-run homer in the first and Buster Posey’s tiebreaking shot in the sixth put the Giants ahead against Jacob deGrom. He starts Saturday vs. Johnny Cueto. On May 9, the Mets won 6-1. Zack Wheeler pitched two-hit ball against the team that traded him, Michael Conforto homered and New York scored four times in the first inning. Wheeler won’t pitch in this series. The right-hander was drafted sixth overall by San Francisco in 2009 and shipped to the Mets for slugger Carlos Beltran in July 2011. In the finale, San Francisco won 6-5.

How Did the Giants Win That Last Game?

Christian Arroyo snapped a ninth-inning tie with a three-run double and the Giants took advantage of a critical error by third baseman Wilmer Flores. Pence hit a tying single off closer Jeurys Familia in a four-run ninth. Posey homered again and scored three runs for San Francisco. This time, the Mets will face two left-handed starters at San Francisco. That will conclude a stretch of facing eight left-handed starters over a span of 14 games. New York is 6-9 vs. left-handed starters this year. Giants win the series.
