While we cannot say for sure right now, it is certainly looking as though the American League Wild Card race might well go down to the final day of the season. That is good news for MLB, who must have had this as the perfect scenario when they changed the postseason format. It is a little more stressful for the Minnesota Twins, who are one of the 3 teams with a shot at the final Wild Card spot. They will host the Kansas City Royals in their final game of the MLB betting regular season.

The Twins (83-76) certainly deserve credit for hanging around so long, especially when you consider that they have been on the outside looking in at the playoffs for quite some time now. The race for that final Wild Card spot couldn’t be any tighter, with the Twins and Angels both now sitting a game back of the Houston Astros. It is Houston who appear to have the easiest match-up this weekend, but nerves have a way of making things not quite as easy as they should be. Minnesota may well be hoping that the Royals use this opportunity to rest some key personnel before they head of to the ALDS nest week. The Twins have not yet decided who will be on the mound for the final game.It may appear that the Royals (92-67) have nothing to play for at this point, but that is not quite true. KC have not been playing very good ball through the month of September, especially in the last couple of weeks. No team wants to head into the postseason on a poor run of form, and the Royals have to be acutely aware that they are no longer the favorites to represent the AL in the World Series. That may well be something that plays in their favor one the playoffs begin, as the pressure will shift to the Blue Jays, who many consider to be the favorites. One of the biggest issues for the Royals has been the play of Johnny Cueto (10-13, 4.95 ERA), as he has seen his ERA bloom by over 3 full points since the middle of August. It will be Cueto who gets the start in this one.
