Written by on May 26, 2021

After a shortened season in 2020, it’s good to see that we are going to have a full 19-race season in MotoGP this year. We are just 5 races into the season, and we have a tight race at the top of the standings. Some potential favorites have emerged in the early going, but with so many races still to come, now is not really the time to start making bold predictions. This weekend, the riders will be in Italy for the next race, with those sitting off the pace looking to move a little closer to the top 4. We are now going to take a quick look at the current leaders and how they might make out this weekend. Let’s get right to it so can make your bets and cash in against their MotoGP odds.

MotoGP Betting Analysis for the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley

Fabio Quartararo

While riders who eventually win a world championship in MotoGP tend to rack up wins over the course of the season, they also need to stay consistently good on the weekends where they do not win. That is what Fabio Quartararo has been doing through the opening 5 races of the season. Yes, he has 2 wins already, but he has also been top 5 in 2 other races, with his worst performance being a 13th place finish in Spain. He is the early favorite to win it all this season, but let’s not forget he was in this position last year before slumping in the final few weeks of the season. His best finish in Italy in MotoGP is 10th, so he will need to do much better this weekend to get the win.

Francesco Bagnaia

After winning a Moto2 world championship in 2018, the next logical step for Bagnaia was to move up to MotoGP, which is exactly what he did. Through his first 2 seasons at this level, it has been a bit of a struggle for the Italian, but it looks as though he is finally starting to put it all together this season. One thing to consider this weekend is that Bagnaia has yet to win a MotoGP race, but he has been close this season, landing on the podium in 3 of 5 races and not finishing worse than 6th. That first win has to come sooner rather than later.

Johann Zarco

Zarco is another rifer who is coming into his own this season after having difficulty making the move from Moto2 to MotoGP. Zarco won back-to-back world championships in Moto2 before deciding to make the move to GP in 2017. In that time, he has failed to win a race, although he did finish 6th overall in each of his first two seasons at this level. He is bouncing back in a big way this season and has already had a trio of 2nd place finishes. Another one who is long overdue for a win.

Jack Miller

It is always tough to recover after a slow start to the season, especially when other riders are racking up wins, but Jack Miller is proving it is possible. He made a poor start to the season, finishing 9th in each of the first 2 races before being forced to retire in the 3rd. It would have been easy to get down, but Miller picked himself up and has now won 2 races in a row. He will head to Italy looking to make it 3, but this is a race that has not been good to him in the past. Could that change this weekend?
