Denny Hamlin

Over the last 4 seasons, Hamlin has made it to the final four on 3 separate occasions, while just missing out in the other. He has come close to a championship so many times but has been unable to get over the top and get that final win. He is very much in the hunt again this season and looks like a good bet to move on to the next round this weekend given how good he has been on this Kansas track. He finished 2nd in this race in the 2022 season, while winning at Kansas earlier this year. I’d definitely be prepared to take a shot at him at these odds.

Kyle Larson

As we mentioned at the top of this piece, Larson has already secured his spot in the Round of 12 with his win last weekend. This sport, like so many others, is all about momentum when it comes to the playoffs, so look for him to try and build on that win with another strong performance on Sunday in Kansas. While he finished outside the top 5 in this race last season, he did have a 2nd place run in Kansas earlier this year. I’m not so sure he will go out and make it back-to-back wins this weekend, but a top 5 finish looks to be a good bet.

Martin Truex Jr.

If we are going to talk about momentum, then we need to talk about drivers heading in the wrong direction, which is what seems to be happening with Truex Jr. at the moment. His last 2 performances have not been great, and while he will almost certainly survive the upcoming cut, he does need to snap out of his current form and get back up among the leaders in these big races. The good news is that he has been in the top 10 in each of his last 2 races in Kansas, so perhaps he can deliver something better this weekend.

William Byron

You have to say that Byron is picking up some steam as we head deeper into the playoffs, coming into this race on a run that has seen him have 3 straight top 10 finishes, which includes a win at Watkins Glen a few short weeks ago. This is his 3rd straight foray into the postseason, and he has progressed well with each passing year, culminating in a 6th place overall finish in 2022. He will, of course, be looking for better this year, which looks to be possible given that he is 2nd overall right now.
