While we have had a Clash at the Coliseum and some duel races, the real NASCAR season begins this weekend, with the drivers in the three major series headed to Daytona for what should be an exciting weekend. While all eyes are sure to be on the Daytona 500, the action gets started sooner, with the Truck Series set to begin racing on Friday night. The NextEra Energy 250 will be the first race on what is a busy weekend slate, so that is where we are going to begin our coverage. Zane Smith

This is the driver coming into the new season with a huge target on his back given that he is the defending Truck Series champion. There had to be some level of relief for Smith with the championship win, as he had finished 2nd overall in the previous 2 seasons. It was a perfect bookend season for Smith in 2022, as he started things out with a win at Daytona before also going on to win the final race of the year, where he clinched the title. His previous runs in the opening race of the season were forgettable, so what are we going to see from him this time around?

Corey Heim

It’s always fun to see young drivers come through the ranks and make an impact, which is something that Heim did last season. Despite racing just part of the season, Heim still managed to finish 14th overall, while picking up a couple of wins along the way. This is a driver on the rise and there is a feeling that he could take a rather massive step forward this season. He still might be considered something of a risk in terms of wagering, so I might pass on him for now until we get a better idea of what to expect from him this year.

Grant Enfinger

Last season felt like a bit of a return to form for Enfinger, who finished 7th overall after falling outside the top 10 in 2021. The slide came as a little bit of a surprise when you consider that it appeared as though 2020 was going to be a breakout season, with Enfinger winning 3 races, including the season opener at Daytona, and landing in the top 4. The question now is whether he can get back to his best. His previous form, as well as that win at Daytona, suggests he could be a factor on Friday night.

Ty Majeski

His first full season in the Truck Series proved to be a successful one for Majeski, who ended up finishing 4th overall. It’s fair to say that he got better as the season wore on in 2022, as both of his wins came in the playoffs, proving that he has what it takes to handle the pressure. Majeski is another one that a lot of race fans believe can take another step forward this season. Last year, he finished 7th in the season opener at Daytona, but I think he might well do better this time around.
