While the Cup Series drivers had a bit of a fun weekend with the All-Star Race last week, the Truck Series drivers were operating business as usual.
The end result of last weekend’s action with the trucks was that the standings at the top got a little bit tighter, which is saying something when you consider how close things were prior to the running of the last race.

My Analysis
This weekend, the action shifts to North Carolina, where a change at the top could well be how things play out, depending entirely on who wins the next race up. We are still awaiting the release of the odds for the 2024 North Carolina Educations Lottery 200. Even without those Truck Race odds, we still have an idea of who will be in the mix, so let’s take a look.
^Christian Eckes
As it stands now, Eckes is clinging to the #1 spot in the driver standings, with his lead now reduced to just 2 points. He has been able to maintain his lead thanks in large part to the number of laps that he has led this season, as well as an incredible level of consistency. He has only been outside the top 10 once this season and is currently on a run that has seen him finish in the top 5 in each of the last 5 races, with just a single win during that most recent stretch. There is a better than average chance that his consistent streak will stay in place, as he finished in the top 10 in this race in each of the last 2 seasons.
^Corey Heim
There were definitely signs that this might be a big season for Heim, as he made it to the Championship Round of the Truck Series last season before having to settle for 4th overall. He made it clear that he was ready to go this season, opening things up with 3 straight podium finishes. He has been even better since then, winning 3 of the last 6 races to get to within 2 points of Eckes at the top of the driver standings. Another win this weekend and he will leapfrog the leader, and you have to like his chances. Heim finished 2nd in this race last season.
^Ty Majeski
While Majeski is currently occupying the #3 spot in the driver standings, there has to be some concern about his recent form. After his 11th place finish last weekend, Majeski has now cracked the top 10 just once in the last 3 races, and that was by the skin of his teeth. He is also looking for his first win of the season, but when you consider that he has managed just 1 win per year in each of the last 2 seasons, that might not be so surprising. A top 10 might be the best way to wager on Majeski in Charlotte.
^Nick Sanchez
Sanchez made the best possible start to the season by winning the opening race of the year in Daytona. He has not yet matched that performance, but that is not to suggest that he hasn’t come close. In fact, Sanchez is on a run of 5 straight races finishing in the top 10, so expect him to be knocking on the door again this weekend. Sanchez finished 9th in Charlotte last season, but I could see him maybe cracking the top 5 this time around.

The Truck Series season is moving quickly, with just 6 races remaining before we get down to the 10 drivers who will make the playoffs this year. If you look at the current standings, you can clearly see that the battle for those 10 spots is likely to go all the way down to the wire. This weekend, the focus shifts to Charlotte for the running of the North Carolina Education Lottery 200, which is set to go on Friday night at 8:30 PM EST. Will the standings at the top look the same after this race or will we once again see the situation change? Let’s take a look at the current top 4 and their chances of winning this weekend.

Corey Heim
Given that this is his first full season driving in the Truck Series, you could say that it’s a bit of a surprise to see Heim leading the way after the opening 10 races of the year. That said, this is a driver who picked up a pair of wins in limited races last season, and who still managed to finish 14th overall despite sitting out 7 races. It makes you wonder what might have happened had he raced in them all. Heim has just 1 win in the 2023 season, but he has been very consistent, landing in the top 10 in 8 of the 10 races this year.
Ty Majeski
Majeski had an amazing season in 2022, which was his first full year in the Truck Series, winning a couple of playoff races and finishing 4th overall. There was a definite sense that he would be in the hunt to win it all in 2023, and while he has yet to pick up a win this season, he is very much in the picture. Majeski consistently seems to be up among the leaders in the majority of races, landing in the top 5 in no less than 6 of the 10 races this season. He finished outside the top 10 in Charlotte last year, but I think we can expect much better this time around.
Zane Smith
The defending champion of the Truck Series is once again challenging for top spot, which is no real surprise when you consider that he has been no worse than 2nd overall across the last 3 seasons. It looked as though he might be ready to run away with things this year, winning 2 of the first 4 races of the season, but Smith has cooled off of late, especially in the past 2 races, where he has been well off the pace. There is a good chance he bounces back this weekend, though, as he was top 5 in Charlotte last season.
Grant Enfinger
Slowly but surely, Enfinger has driven his way into the top 4 in the driver standings as he looks to improve on his 7th place overall finish in 2022. He already has 1 win on the season and will be looking to match his win total from last year with a strong showing in Charlotte on Friday night. He certainly has to be considered one of the favorites to do so when you consider that he finished 2nd in this corresponding race in 2022. I might just be tempted to take him to win this one outright.
