Coming off an embarrassing 120-105 road loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday Night, the Dallas Mavericks (3-4) are hoping to get their season back on track with a win when they host DeAndre Jordan (who is guaranteed to treated to a full night of boos after his offseason transfer saga) and the Los Angeles Clippers (5-2) at the American Airlines Center in Wednesday’s NBA lines. But even with the hellish night for Jordan, it is going to be a tall order for Dallas to win this game, given the manner in which the Clippers have impressed this season. Notably, this will be the second meeting between these two teams this season after the Clippers dispatched Dallas 104-88 when they met on October 29th in Los Angeles. That said, the Clippers have been far from solid in their recent games and had to hang onto 94-92 win over Memphis on Monday to avoid a three-game losing skid, following losses to Golden State and Houston in their previous two fixtures. In order to get back into their solid basketball ways, the Clips will be hoping that their star player, Blake Griffin, is able to continue his solid season. Entering this game, Griffin is averaging a team-best 28.6 PPG, including a 24-point, 12-rebound performance in Monday’s win over Memphis and a 26-point, 10-rebound performance in the meeting against Dallas earlier in the season. With Dallas no longer having the solid rim protection services of Tyson Chandler, you can expect Griffin and Jordan (who is averaging 13.3 RPG and importantly grabbed 15 rebounds in the first meeting with Dallas) to continue causing all sorts of problems around the rim, supported with a stellar cast that includes Chris Paul, Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford. For the Mavericks, the onus will be on Dirk Nowitzki and his teammates to man up and find a winning rhythm after losing three of their last five outings, including yesterday’s loss to New Orleans. Fortunately for the Mavs, they will have a better lineup than the one that was tossed around by Los Angeles in their first meeting. During that losing night in LA, Dallas started the likes of Jeremy Evans, Raymond Felton and John Jenkins, who are not players you’d rank under any list of solid starters. In place of the three players, Dallas will now have the veteran trio of Chandler Parsons, Deron Williams and Wesley Matthews as starters, thus offering better promise for more productivity on both ends of the field. As a crucial note, though, Parsons, Williams, and Matthews combined for just 11 points yesterday, something that will need to improve greatly when they go against the high-scoring Clips. Meanwhile, Norwitzki, who paces the team with 17.1 PPG and is coming off a team-leading 18-point performance against the Pellies last night, will need to continue doing his thing, along with a solid support system from bench players like Dwight Powell, who is averaging 11.1 PPG and 7.7 RPG in his relief services this season. And above everything, the Mavericks will have to find a way of stopping Jordan from dominating the boards and giving his team opportunities to score second-chance points. Without solving the DeAndre problem, this game will most likely end in the same way like the first one.
