2024 NBA Play-In Tournament Over/ Under Picks | MyBookie NBA Preview for the Play-In Tournament Games

2024 NBA season | 78th season of the National Basketball Association
Play-In Tournament: Tuesday, April 16th – Friday, April 19th, 2024

Los Angeles Lakers at New Orleans Pelicans

NBA Odds: Lakers -1.5 / Lakers -122; Pelicans +100 / O/U 225
Play-In: West – 7th Place vs 8th Place

Tuesday, April 16th at 7:30 pm ET | TNT
Smoothie King Center

These two teams just played on Sunday and scored 232 points. Now, the Lakers and Pelicans are playing for a chance to get into the postseason. The winner will get Denver in the first round. LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to go over 40,000 points, 11,000 assists and 11,000 rebounds. Him and Anthony Davis are looking to put an exclamation point on their postseason berth. Look for the defense to be a little better, but still not enough. With James, Davis, Zion, Etc in this game, we like points. We will go with the Lakers winning 114-100 over the Pelicans, which is grounds for betting the OVER!

Golden State Warriors at Sacramento Kings

NBA Odds: Warriors -2.5 / Kings +120; Warriors -142 / O/U 226.5
Play-In: West – 9th Place vs 10th Place

Tuesday, April 16th at 10:00 pm ET | TNT
Golden 1 Center

These two teams are plenty familiar with each other. They last played on January 25th, so it has been some time. They scored 267 in that game. This has the makings of a really high scoring basketball game. Both teams can really score the basketball. The oddsmakers placed this one lower than most figured it would be. We are going to sip the kool-aid and take the OVER 226.5. We look for a final score with both teams around the 120 mark. We will take the Warriors 121-119 over the Kings, which means we are betting on the OVER.

Miami Heat at Philadelphia 76ers

NBA Odds: 76ers -4 / Heat +150; 76ers -180 / O/U 225
Play-In: East – 7th Place vs 8th Place

Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00 pm ET | ESPN
Wells Fargo Center

The first game in the Eastern Conference determines which team gets in as the 7th seed. The loser will have to fight in one more game against the winner of Hawks and Bulls. The last time these two teams played; April 4th, and the two teams went to 214 points. That of course is over the oddsmakers projection for this one. Playoff basketball though, and we know Miami is a playoff team. They are going to want to keep the pace down. We will take the UNDER 207.5, as the Heat go on the road and win this game. We like the final score of 104-101 Miami. Take the UNDER on Wednesday!

Atlanta Hawks at Chicago Bulls

NBA Odds: Bulls -3 / Hawks +124; Bulls -148 / O/U 218.5
Play-In: East – 9th Place vs 10th Place

Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00 pm ET | ESPN
United Center

Trae Young is back for the Atlanta Hawks. He has been fairly solid in his return, with a double double. He will go along with DeJounte Murray, as they look to move a game closer to the postseason. They will be forced to start on the road in Chicago. These two teams just met on April 1st, and scored just 214. Atlanta is going to want to push the pace. DeMar DeRozan and the Bulls are scoring 112.3 points per game. If they get to 112 in this game, and Atlanta gets to their average of 118.3 points per game, this game will go OVER. We do expect this to be a tight game with a bunch of points. Taking the OVER is the right move in this game! We will take Atlanta 124-122 over Chicago.

Hawks at Bulls

The first Play-In matchup features two teams extremely familiar with each other as they are Southeast division rivals. Atlanta and Miami are meeting for the 14th time since the beginning of the 2022 season, with the Heat winning 10 of those games. Both teams have been inconsistent since the all-star break due to defensive issues.

Go with the Under. Miami owns the league’s ninth-best defense rating, and the Heat allows the ninth fewest points at home at 110 points a contest. The Heat also averages 111 points at Kaseya Center this year, which ranks 28th in the League.

This is the playoffs, which means teams generally increase their defensive intensity. The Under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings, hitting in each of the five playoff games between the squads last year.

Several Hawks players are dealing with injuries though most don’t seem to series. Trae Young (groin) and John Collins (back) are the most worrying for the Hawks. Young has struggled against the Heat throughout his career, but they completely shut him down last year in the playoffs. Young was limited to 15.4 points on 31.1% shooting from the field and 18.8% from the 3-point line in the five-game series.

No. 8 Minnesota Timberwolves vs. No 7 Los Angeles Lakers

NBA Odds: Lakers -6.5 / Timberwolves +217 – Lakers -227 / O/U 229.5
When: Tuesday, April 11 at 10:00 pm ET
Where: crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, CA
TV / Streaming: TNT

This matchup is being billed as two teams who could make a noise in the 2023 playoffs. The Lakers have been playing exceptionally well, and Timberwolves are finally healthy. However, Rudy Gobert may receive a suspension after punching Kyle Anderson during a second-quarter timeout on Sunday. The Wolves, who trailed by 12 after the first quarter, responded well following the incident and earned a come-from-behind 113-108 victory over New Orleans.

Go with the Under. A big reason for the Lakers turning around their season is that they recommitted themselves to the defensive end. The Lakers went 16-7 down the stretch, posting the fourth-best defensive rating at 111.1. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves were 10th in defensive rating for the season.

The average number of points scored in the three games this year between the Lakers and Timberwolves was 220. The Under hit in two of the past three contests and eight of the last 10 meetings.
