Okay, College Basketball betting faithful, with the month of February now halfway over and the start of the annual national championship basketball tournament set to get underway in approximately one month now is a great time to take a look at all you need to know about this year’s 2019 March Madness tournament.
Selection Sunday will kick off this year’s March Madness on Sunday, March 17, 2019. While college hoops fans and bettors don’t really care much about the selection process itself, let it be known that the NCAA has developed a new ranking system to replace the RPI as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.
This new ranking system was approved in late July and is now known as the NCAA Evaluation Tool or NET and like its predecessor, it relies on game results, the strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive, and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses.

Five Alive!
If you’re looking for predictions, then I’ve got a whopper of one for you. Basically, I believe one of these five teams will win the 2019 national championship.
Duke (22-2)
By now, everyone knows the Blue Devils are led by the top three recruits from last season’s batch of high school All-Americans. Zion Williamson is a headline-grabbing monster athlete and R.J.
Barrett and Cam Reddish are both stars in their own right. However, I’m concerned about Duke’s depth – and youth – which, I believe could both cause the Blue Devils to come up short in their quest for national championship success.
Gonzaga (24-2)
I’ve said it since the beginning of the season. Gonzaga looks like a team that can beat anyone in the nation – including Duke. Even without star forward Killian Tillie, the Zags have a ton of talent and one of the few coaches that can match Duke’s Coach K in basketball acumen.
Rui Hachimura and Brandon Clarke both look like next level players and the Zags play lockdown defense (65.1 ppg), not to mention the fact that they lead the nation in scoring (90.7 ppg).
Nevada (23–1)
I have no idea why everyone is sleeping on Nevada, but all I know is that this is the same team that was expected to contend for the national championship this season and one of few teams with three legitimate NBA prospects on their roster in Caleb and Cody Martin and Jordan Caroline.
The Wolf Pack average a stellar 82.5 points per game (21st) while limiting the opposition to just 66.6 points per contest defensively (57th).
Tennessee (22–1)
The Vols average a stellar 85.4 points per game to rank seventh in the nation in scoring while simultaneously limiting the opposition to just 67.5 points per contest defensively (78th).
More importantly, they’ve got a legitimate star in forward Grant Williams (19.4 ppg) and another in guard Admiral Schofield (16.7 ppg), not to mention a trio of other starters that all average double figures in scoring.
Virginia (23-2)
So what the Cavaliers became the first No. 1 seed to ever lose its opening round match against a No. 16 seed a year ago. That was then and this is now. The Cavaliers are as good as it gets on the defensive end of the floor in limiting the opposition to just 54.4 points per game to rank first in points allowed.
While the Cavs will never be known for having an explosive offense, they are definitely better at that end of the floor than they were a year ago and now, they have two potential future NBA performers in Kyle Guy (14.8 ppg) and De’Andre Hunter (14.7 ppg).
