College Basketball Betting Preview & Top Betting Opportunities

Written by on December 5, 2022

The College Basketball season is now in full swing, and we’re even starting to see some teams starting in on conference play. In looking at the slate of games for Tuesday, December 6th, we’ve found a couple of games that have caught our attention.

We’re going to give you a brief preview of each game, and then we’ll give you our best betting advice.

Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Texas Longhorns

This one comes to us from the Mecca of all arenas, Madison Square Garden. This game is part of the annual Jimmy V Classic. And it promises to be a good one.

The Texas Longhorns are ranked second in the nation behind the Houston Cougars. The Illinois Fighting Illini come in this week at #16. Both teams are very athletic and can play at a very fast pace.

Texas is 6-0 with victories over Gonzaga and Creighton. This will be their first true test away from home this season. Marcus Carr is Texas’s leading scorer.

Chris Beard plays a very aggressive style on defense, and he has put together a team that is built for his defensive system. This will be a good test for Texas, as the Illini are just as athletic as they are.

Terrence Shannon, Jr. has been outstanding for Illinois. The Texas Tech transfer has been Illinois’ best scorer thus far.

We’ll see if he and the Illini guards will be able to withstand the constant pressure that the Texas defense will put on them. Texas has done very well at shutting down opposing guards this season, so this should be an interesting matchup.

As we stated earlier, Texas has yet to play a tough game on the road, so this will be a big test. Illinois has already played a couple of strong opponents away from Champaign.

We like Texas in this one. We know they’ll be favored, but we’re not sure by how much. We’re guessing in the four to seven point range.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Duke Blue Devils

This one is also part of the Jimmy V Classic, so the Hawkeyes won’t have to contend with all of the trials and tribulations that come with playing at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Blue Devils come into this one as the 17th-ranked team in the country this week. Iowa has been ranked this season but is currently on the outside of the Top 25 looking in.

Duke will have to contend with an Iowa team that is very good on offense. The Hawkeyes are one of the highest-scoring teams in the country, and they have one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in college basketball.

With their style of play on offense, it hurts Iowa’s defense. The Hawkeyes aren’t known for their defensive prowess, and they can give up points in bunches. We’ll see if Duke can take advantage of a weak Hawkeye defense.

We’ll see if Duke can defend all of Iowa’s weapons. Iowa puts a lineup out on the floor that can shoot it from deep. Kris Murray is their leading scorer, surrounded by a very good cast of shooters. Duke has done a nice job on the defensive end of the floor this season, so this should be a good battle.

Duke will be favored, but it will be by two to four points. If that’s the case, we like Duke.
