2024 Sweet 16 Prediction for Midwest Region Bracket

In the 2024 NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament, four heavyweights get it on in the Midwest Region’s Sweet 16. 1 Purdue is a -5 favorite versus West Coast Conference power Gonzaga. Then in the second game, 2-Tennessee takes on 3-Creighton in what should be one of the most exciting matchups so far in the NCAA Tournament.

Which teams move to this weekend’s Elite 8 and which go home to prepare for next season?

1 Purdue Boilermakers vs. 4 Gonzaga Bulldogs

Game Line: Purdue -5 / O/U 153.5

Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 10:09 PM | TBS, truTV
TD Garden, Boston, MA

The Zags have won both their games by stellar margins. Gonzaga beat a talented McNeese State group 86-65. Then in their second game, Gonzaga blasted the preseason number one, the Kansas Jayhawks, 89-68. In both contests, the Zags shot lights out and played the type of defense that wins championship.

But at the given odds, +5, the West Coast Conference squad is an underlay for sure. Purdue is playing like they’re not going to lose unless they face off against the Denver Nuggets. The Boilermakers demolished Grambling State 78-50 in their first game.

Then in their second, Zach Edey scored 23 in Purdue’s incredible 106-67 beat down of a good Utah State squad. Edey is getting help from Purdue’s guards this season, which is making a massive difference in the tournament.

Not only that, but Kansas had gone into the game against Gonzaga losers of 4-of-6. So the Zags didn’t see the real Rock Chalk Jayhawk squad. Purdue rolls past this spread.

3 Creighton Blue Jays vs. 2 Tennessee Volunteers

Game Line: Tennessee -2.5 / O/U 144.5

Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 10:09 PM | TBS, truTV
TD Garden, Boston, MA

The odds imply Tennessee has a slight edge. They might, but 3 points could make the Vols an underlay. In fact, a case can be made that Creighton should be the favorite.

Tennessee lost to Kentucky and Mississippi State to finish the regular season. Neither the Bulldogs nor the Wildcats did anything at this season’s NCAA Tournament. The Vols looked great versus St. Peter’s in an 83-49 victory. But against Texas, the Volunteers almost lost in a 62-58 game.

The Longhorns weren’t special this season, which means Tennessee might be slightly overrated in this matchup.

Creighton rolled into the NCAA Tournament, winners of 7-of-9. The Blueja

ys took it to Akron 77-60 in their first March Madness contest. Then in their second, Creighton outlasted Oregon 86-73 in a two overtime game.

The Bluejays, for sure, have played the better competition. Oregon beat Arizona in the Pac-12 Tournament. The Ducks were a formidable team. On Friday night, Creighton will prove again that the selection committee made a huge mistake by handing out bids to just 3 Big East teams. Don’t be surprised if Creighton wins this by 6 to 10.

March Madness Betting Predictions for the Midwest Region Bracket

Previous Betting News

This region may be one of the stronger sides of the bracket for the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The Kansas Jayhawks headline the region as the #1 overall seed. There are so many other teams that could make a run out of this region, not including the top teams. Providence and South Dakota State get things kicked off in the Midwest Region on Thursday afternoon. Let’s take a look at the top three seeds in this region so you can continue making your bets against the March Madness Odds

Top Midwest Region Bracket Predictions | NCAA Basketball Betting

#1 Seed: Kansas Jayhawks

One of the most consistent teams all season has been the Kansas Jayhawks. They tied with Baylor for the Big 12 regular-season championship but claimed champions at the Big 12 Tournament. Kansas has won five straight games coming into the NCAA Tournament.

The Jayhawks have a lot of good players, but they are headlined by Ochai Agbaji, the star senior guard. Agbaji averages 19.7 points per game to go along with 5.1 rebounds on the season. He has had help along the way from Christian Braun, Jalen Wilson, and David McCormack.

Braun has really picked up the scoring from earlier in the season, including his three-point percentage.

A large part of the success by Kansas is due to how battle-tested they are, along with how good their head coach is. Bill Self continues to win and dominate in the Big 12. Can he make another run in the NCAA Tournament with his current team?

#2 Seed: Auburn Tigers

A team that caught the nation by surprise this season is a #2 seed in the NCAA Tournament this season. The Tigers have struggled down the stretch of the season and have struggled with good teams as well. We would caution betting and picking Auburn to go far in this tournament.

The Tigers are 3-3 in their last six games and missed out on the SEC Championship after losing to Texas A&M in the semifinals. Jabari Smith leads the Tigers in points per game this season 17.1 points per game.

The Auburn Tigers won the regular-season title in the SEC, one game over Kentucky. The SEC had a lot of great talent this season, hence why neither Kentucky nor Auburn played in the tournament championship game.

The Tigers will need to provide a lot of scoring this tournament and have to put away teams late in games. That is something that Auburn has struggled with this season, putting teams away late.

#3 Seed: Iowa Hawkeyes

This is a team to bet on late in the season because they have played so well in the last two months. They did get a tough draw in the first round with the A-10 Champions, the Richmond Spiders. Iowa will be tough out here at the end of the season.

Looking at their last 14 games, the Iowa Hawkeyes have won 12 of those games. The last loss came against the Illinois Fighting Illini, but they have won their last four games coming into the week. The scoring has changed the season for Iowa.

The Hawkeyes did not play well earlier this season because they did not shoot the ball well. Now that Iowa is shooting well, they are scoring at a very high level, over 80 points per game. Jordan Bohannon, the sixth-year senior has been a big part of the run by Iowa right now.

Other Teams to Bet On

Creighton Blue Jays – Big East Conference – 9 seed
USC Trojans – Pac-12 Conference – 7 seed
Iowa State – Big 12 Conference – 11 seed
