Villanova +100

Been There, Done That!

It’s quite simple. While this year’s version of the Wildcats is a bit different from last season’s team that went 35-5 and won the national championship, the Wildcats clearly have the feel and look of a team that has ‘been there and done that’ before.

This year’s ballclub is led by several of the same players that played crucial roles in helping the Villanova Wildcats become national champs a year ago, but I’ll get to that point in just a bit. Villanova currently ranks a respectable 62nd in scoring at 79.9 points per game but have been outstanding defensively in limiting the opposition to just 62.1 points per game to rank 24th nationally in points allowed and that speaks to sacrifice for one another.

The Wildcats are also a savvy bunch that doesn’t get rattled no matter where they’re playing or the circumstances they’re facing and it shows in the fact that the Wildcats shoot a stellar 50.4 percent from the field to rank ninth nationally.

Jay Wright

You may not know it, but Villanova head coach jay Wright is as elite as it gets in collegiate hoops these days – and that was before he won the national championship last season.

In less than 16 full seasons at Villa nova, Wright has compiled an impressive 368-157 record (.701) while making 11 NCAA tournament appearances. Wright teams have reached the Sweet Sixteen two times, the Elite Eight once, the Final Four on one other occasion and again, the national championship a year ago. The bottom line for this season’s team is that no matter who they play, the Villanova Wildcats will not get out-coached by anyone.

Josh Hart and Kris Jenkins

Okay, getting back to that thing about this season’s team. The Wildcats have a legitimate superstar and future NBA performer in shooting guard Josh Hart and another future NBA player in sweet-shooting small forward Kris Jenkins.

The efficient Josh Hart leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 20.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while the beloved Jenkins is third in scoring at 13.4 points per game. Both players played significant roles in last season’s title run and show their veteran leadership each and every time out.

Blossoming point guard Jalen Brunson is second in scoring at 13.9 points per game and leads the team in assists at 4.1 per game. Brunson was the backup at point guard a year ago and also has the experience from that March Madness run going for him

Final Analysis

In the end, the Villanova Wildcats are a great team to bet on to win the national championship in 2017. They have a pair of future NBA players leading them and great leadership from their head coach to their floor general. The Wildcats don’t beat themselves with foolish play and turnovers and still clearly have the motivation to show they’re as elite as any program in the country.

Last but not least, the Wildcats are offering stupendous odds at +100, as they rank fourth on the futures odds board behind Duke (7/2), UCLA (6/1) and Kentucky (7/1).
