Nevada vs San Jose State NCAAB Lines & Betting Analysis for a Game that Wolf Pack cannot lose

Nevada of the Mountain West was an NCAA Tournament team last season, and Coach Steve Alford’s club would be in the 2024 Big Dance as things stand currently but can’t really afford a loss at struggling San Jose State on Friday night in league play. The Wolf Pack are nearly double-digit favorites on the NCAAB odds. 2024 NCAA Basketball Betting & Expert Analysis Nevada vs. San Jose State | MyBookie Sportsbook Week 16 NCAAB

Nevada (21-6, 8-5 Mountain West) won for the fifth time in six games Tuesday, 76-58 over Wyoming. The Pokes were held to 42 percent from the field for the game with the Wolf Pack shooting 48 percent. Nevada knocked down 11 threes in the contest with the Cowboys hitting just five. Nevada forced 15 turnovers for the night and turned that into 19 points. Wyoming held a 36-25 advantage on the glass.

The Wolf Pack built an early 14-4 lead on the Cowboys in the opening five minutes of play led by eight points from Tre Coleman. Cam Manyawu made it a seven-point game with an and-one play, but Coleman got to double-figures for a 17-7 lead with under 13 minutes left in the half. Really, The Wolf Pack weren’t much threatened again. They snapped a seven-game losing streak to Wyoming, and the Pack ended the skid to the Cowboys in commanding fashion, as they led for 38 minutes and 43 seconds throughout the game.

“From a game plan side of things, Tre Coleman battled early for Nevada and give them credit they came out and played like an NCAA Tournament Team,” UW associate head coach Ken DeWeese said. “At the end of the day we have to keep pace and score more buckets.”

Coleman scored a game-high 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field. Coleman also dished out four assists, recorded three steals, and tallied one block, while earning a plus/minus of +21 in 35 minutes of action. Coleman has played 117 college games with his top-three scoring outings coming against Wyoming, marks of 23, 22 and 20 points. He’s not scored more than 16 points in any other game.

“If you go back and look at all of our games, they don’t guard me,” Coleman said. “I would say they guarded me the best (Tuesday). But since my freshman year, they don’t put a stick hand up, so I just keep shooting it.”

Jarod Lucas poured in 19 points while eclipsing the 2,000-point scoring mark for his career – less than 700 players in history have reached 2,000 career point nationally. Lucas hit the mark late in the second half after knocking down a pair of free throws. He now sits at 2,002. Lucas is among the Mountain West leaders in made free throws (124), scoring (17.1 PPG), free throw percentage (91.4%) and 3-point field goal percentage (39.6%).

After allowing a season-high 98 points to the Cowboys in the first matchup between the two squads in January, Nevada held the Cowboys to 41.7 percent shooting from the field and 26.3 percent from behind the arc on Tuesday.

The Wolf Pack have been dominant against sub-100 KenPom teams like San Jose State, going 15-1 in those games. Twelve of those 15 wins have come by at least 10 points — the only single-digit wins were over Georgia Tech (eight) and Hawaii (six) — with an average margin of victory of 17.9 points.

Nevada has played 16 games against sub-100 KenPom teams this season. In those games, it has made 113-of-301 3-pointers (37.5 percent). Nevada has played 11 top-100 KenPom teams this season. In those games, it has made 51-of-180 3-pointers (28.3 percent).

Why Bet on San Jose State Spartans?

San Jose State (9-18, 2-12) lost its second game in a row Tuesday, an 82-50 blowout at Boise State. The Broncos went on a 21-6 run in the final 11:43 of the first half to blow the game open and lead 38-16 at the half. RJ Keene II sparked the scoring frenzy with a layup off a steal, followed by a three-pointer. Six Broncos contributed to the run, going 8-for-14 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

San Jose State was held scoreless from the 2:51 mark to just five seconds left on the clock before the break. The 16 points were the fewest Boise State has allowed in the first half since holding Wyoming to 14 points on Jan. 26, 2019.

“At the beginning we came out a bit thirsty and that’s because we weren’t really doing our own thing good enough,” said Boise coach Leon Rice. “They responded, though, after I got on them in the first timeout and we played the right way, physically and mentally. To go 38-16 in the first half, I’m really proud of the way the guys approached this and it was a great week for us.”

Myron (MJ) Amey Jr. scored 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lead the Spartans. Amey Jr. knocked down three 3-pointers and recorded team highs of three steals and two blocks. Tibet Görener registered a game-high four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. Christian Wise led the Spartans with seven rebounds. The Spartans shot 50 percent from 3-point range in the second half (7-for-14).

Starting guard Alvaro Cardenas accumulated zero points (0-6 FG, 0-3 3Pt), four rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in the loss. Cardenas had sat out the previous game due to illness, and while he returned to the starting lineup Tuesday, he didn’t seem to be at 100 percent. He saw a season-low 26 minutes and was held scoreless for the first time all year, turning the ball over four times in the process. Cardenas ranks sixth all-time for most career assists at SJSU with 343. He is tied for seventh on the SJSU career 3-point leaderboard with Michael Quinney (1998-99).

Friday is Senior Night for San Jose State and the school will honor three seniors on the team in Trey Anderson, Görener and Ryen Perry. Görener is the all-time leader in San Jose State history in 3-pointers made with 167. Anderson is also in the Top 10 and ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more 3-point attempts per game) at 41.4 percent.

SJSU is 5-0 in games in which they shot over 50 percent this season. The five opponents against whom they have shot over 50 percent are Bethesda, Norfolk State, New Orleans, Santa Clara and Air Force. The Spartans are second in the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 8.58, behind only Air Force.
