Alabama vs Georgia 2018 SEC Championship Odds & Pick

Written by on November 29, 2018

Outside of the playoffs, there is no bigger date on the college football calendar than Championship Weekend. Not only do we get to find out who the best team in every conference is, we also get to see which 4 teams will be competing for the National Championship. Outside of the Pac 12 game, the other Power 5 title games could all have an impact on who gets in and who misses out. The one team that appears to be in total control of their own destiny are the Georgia Bulldogs, although control is a relative term when the next game up is the Alabama Crimson Tide, the reigning champions in college football.

The SEC Championship Game is a repeat of last year’s National Championship Game and we can only hope that it is as entertaining as that one was. Most folks, the bookies included, have Alabama in as an overwhelming favorite, but I would not be sleeping on the Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide are in as a 13 ½ point favorite, with the point total set at 64.

Why bet on the Georgia Bulldogs?

The talk this week in Athens has been that 2nd and 26 play in the National Championship Game last year, which was the one that did in the Dawgs in OT. We all may be talking about it, but coach Smart and his team are fully focused on the future, not the past. The future is certainly bright for this team, as they are currently the youngest in the SEC and are probably ahead of the pace that was initially set for them at the start of the season.

After losing to LSU, Georgia looked to be down and out, but they returned from the bye week and have been brilliant ever since, reeling off 5 straight wins and scoring an average of just over 40 PPG. The key to victory is to keep Tua and the Tide offense off the field, which Georgia can do with their run game.

Team Stats

  • Average Score For: 40.08
  • Total Yards: 480.83
  • Rush Yards: 259.83
  • Passing Yards: 221.00
  • Average Score Against: 17.17
  • Total Yards: 303.50
  • Rush Yards: 128.42
  • Passing Yards: 175.08

Why bet on the Alabama Crimson Tide?

Alabama are coming into this game in a somewhat comfortable position in that they can lose and probably still be a part of the college football playoff this year. The Crimson Tide have been an offensive juggernaut this season, with Tua leading his team to a stunning 49 PPG.

Georgia vs Alabama is going to be a close one.

While the aerial attack for Alabama has been great, they can also still hurt you with their ground game, too, which they may need to get working for them against a very good Georgia D. Alabama are rounding into form in a big way, covering the spread in 5 of their last 6 games to take their regular season ATS record to 8-4.

Team Stats

  • Average Score For: 49.00
  • Total Yards: 538.00
  • Rush Yards: 205.92
  • Passing Yards: 332.08
  • Average Score Against: 13.75
  • Total Yards: 282.17
  • Rush Yards: 114.00
  • Passing Yards: 168.17

Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction for Alabama vs Georgia

It’s fair to suggest that many neutral fans are getting a little tired of seeing Alabama win every year, but it is up to someone else to take them down. Can that team be Georgia? It may be a year too early for this group, but I do think the dogs keep this one close enough to cover the spread.
