While many of the bigger teams in college football choose to ease gently into the new season by scheduling some easy games at the start, others take a very different approach. Since the arrival of the playoff system, we have seen more and more teams schedule big games in the opening week of the season. Doing this is often viewed as a bit of a win/win type of situation. If you win, it gives a team a real boost of confidence that can carry them forward the rest of the way. Even if the game ends in a loss, losing to another ranked team is not going to be looked on too badly by the playoff committee.
That said, it also means that there is very little margin for error the rest of the way. The Auburn Tigers have chosen to go the more difficult route in Week 1 over the last couple of seasons, winning both of those tougher games. Week 3 will be more like a training session, with the Tigers welcoming in the Kent State Golden Flashes. Auburn are favored by 35 ½, with the run total set at 54.

Why bet on the Kent State Golden Flashes?
These types of games are always tough when you are trying to find reasons to play money on the huge underdog. The Kent State Golden Flashes are no different, as there is very little in their current trends that would suggest that they are a good bet. They are just 3-16 SU in their last 19 games, but that is perhaps not the worst of it, as they also have only won once on the road in their last 16 attempts.
They have had zero joy when going against teams from the SEC, losing in each of their last 7 games against teams from that conference. In Week 3 games, the Golden Flashes are 5-12 ATS in their last 17. If there is one angle worth looking at, it would be the point total. 7 of their last 9 overall have gone UNDER, as have 6 of their last 8 September games.

Why bet on the Auburn Tigers?
This season looked a little reminiscent to last in terms of the schedule for the Auburn Tigers. They started things out with a big win over ranked Washington in Week 1, but eventually stumbled their way to a 7-5 regular season record. We will have to wait a while to see how this season plays out, but they got off to a similar start this year, delivering a rousing come from behind win over the Oregon Ducks in Week 1.
That win created a bit of a QB controversy, with Bo Nix getting the start over Jason Stidham in Week 2. Nix struggled at times, but they managed to lead the Tigers to a 24-6 win over Tulane, good enough to cover the spread for the second straight week. Worth noting is that Auburn are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Week 3 games.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
Despite being 2-0, the Tigers have looked a little inconsistent at times on the offensive side of the football. While they win this one, I think we are looking at the Golden Flashes covering and the UNDER.
