NCAAF Heisman Trophy Odds April 3rd 2020 Edition

Written by on April 6, 2020

While spring college football has been put on hold all across the nation because of the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, the 2020 regular season looks like it will have a great chance of staying on schedule, simply because it’s still several months away and outside of experts predictions on when the U.S. should be able to bring an end to its social distancing and quarantining guidelines. With that thought in mind and the NCAAF futures odds on the board the 2020 Heisman Trophy Odds, let’s find out which players you should be looking at backing in this always, fun-filled wager.

NCAAF Heisman Trophy Odds April 3rd 2020 Edition

Trevor Lawrence (Clemson QB) +180

The gifted signal-caller has only lost one game in two seasons at perennially-powerful Clemson and is an almost consensus selection as the top pick in the 2021 NFL draft. Despite struggling early on in 2019, Lawrence finished the season as arguably the hottest quarterback in the nation while finishing with 3,665 passing yards and 36 TD tosses against just eight interceptions. If the Tigers are in the mix to reach next season’s national championship (they will be), then Lawrence will have a great shot to win the 2020 Heisman!

Justin Fields (Ohio State QB) +210

After transferring from Georgia following his freshman season, Fields, a former five-star recruit, landed at Ohio State where he replaced Dwayne Haskins with ease by throwing 41 TD passes and just three interceptions while rushing for an additional 484 yards on the ground and 10 scores. If you didn’t know, Fields is the favorite to win next season’s Heisman in the eyes of numerous oddsmakers.

Jamie Newman (Georgia QB) +800

Former Wake Forest signal-caller Jamie Newman is in the mix for the Heisman as he gets set to play his first season under Kirby Smart at perennially-powerful Georgia. Newman passed for 2,868 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 picks for the Demon Deacons in 2019.

Kedon Slovis (USC QB) +400

Kedon Slovis came in for the injured JT Daniels early in the 2019 campaign and the strong-armed freshman far exceeded expectations by passing for 3,502 yards with 30 TD passes and nine interceptions. Unfortunately, unless the Trojans improve in a big way from their uninspiring 8-5 record, I suspect Slovis will get bypassed for true Heisman consideration by a quarterback that has guided his team into legitimate national championship contention.

Mac Jones (Alabama QB) +500

The redshirt junior stepped admirably to replace the injured Tua Tagovailoa late in the regular season and guided the Crimson Tide to a 2-1 mark over their final three games by passing for 1,502 yards with 14 TD passes and three picks. Still, I’d save my money on Jones seeing as how he may not even start in 2020 because of the arrival of talented five-star recruit Bryce Young.

Chuba Hubbard (Oklahoma State RB) +600

After deciding to return for his junior season after leading the nation in rushing with a whopping 2.094 rushing yards and 21 scores, Oklahoma State star running back Chuba Hubbard is definitely a player to keep an eye on in 2020, particularly if the Cowboys challenge for a Big 12 title.

Travis Etienne (Clemson RB)

One year after putting up a stellar 1,659 yards and an FBS-leading 24 rushing touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018, the fleet-footed Etienne racked up 1,614 yards and 19 scores on the ground while averaging a nation-leading 7.8 yards per carry. Etienne will contend, but it’s going to be tough for him to beat out teammate – and quarterback – Trevor Lawrence.

Overall Analysis NCAAF Heisman Trophy Odds

The bottom line for mes is that both, Travis Lawrence and Justin Fields are going to be extremely difficult to beat if they – and their respective teams – perform anywhere close to what the did last season when Clemson and Ohio State reached the College Football Playoffs.

I think the pair should probably have dead-even odds, even though I’m going to back Trevor Lawrence to win the only major award he hasn’t so far in college football. I’m going with Lawrence, Fields and Chuba Howard as my top three 2020 Heisman Trophy picks.
