Why Bet on the Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-1 SU, 6-5 ATS)

The Cowboys were on the wrong end of a humbling 45-35 smackdown at the hands of Baylor on Saturday and failed to cover the spread as a 3-point home underdog in the process. Mason Rudolph completed 27 of 50 pass attempts for 430 yards and three touchdowns, but the Cowboys allowed Bears quarterback Jarrett Stidham to throw one touchdown pass while allowing fellow quarterback Chris Johnson to toss two more TD passes while rushing for another. Oklahoma State also allowed Baylor to go 14-for-22 (64%) on third downs while going 5-for-15 (33%) themselves. Making matters worse is the fact that the Cowboys were limited to an insane eight rushing yards on 23 team carries. Oklahoma State is ranked seventh in scoring (42.8 ppg) and 60th in points allowed (26.4 ppg).

The Sooners remained unbeaten, but they were fortunate to do so in their harrowing 30-29 win over TCU on Saturday. The Sooners stopped TCU’s two-point conversion try to get the win although the Sooners never came close to covering the spread as an 18-point home favorite. Quarterback Baker Mayfield completed 9 of 20 passing for 127 yards and two touchdowns before suffering a head injury and not returning for the second half. “Our trainers and doctors were constantly, with each series, every time Baker was off, checking him, asking him questions, making sure he was OK, and everything was checking out fine,” Stoops said. “And then at halftime, they approached him again to go over some things and Baker admitted to having a headache, and that’s when our doctors said we’re not going to have him play. Let me get started by admitting that this is a very tough call for even the most experienced betting aficionado. On the one hand, you have An Oklahoma team that has won six straight games and beat Baylor by 10 points on the road two weeks ago but barely escaped TCU in Saturday’s one-point win. On the other hand, Oklahoma State suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday in getting smacked around by Baylor, but one that is also playing at home in its most meaningful game of the season and one that spanked TCU three weeks ago. So what’s a college football bettor to think? For me, I’m going with Oklahoma to pull off the big road upset because they have the better starting quarterback, running back and defense! Looking at the common rivals for these teams, it sticks out to me that Oklahoma rolled all over Iowa State while Oklahoma State narrowly beat the Cyclones on the road. The Sooners also routed Texas Tech 63-27 while Oklahoma State got involved in a 70-53 high-scoring shootout with the Red Raiders. Oklahoma also pounded West Virginia by 20 while Oklahoma State had to escape the Mountaineers 33-26 in overtime. Last but not least, Oklahoma absolutely obliterated Kansas State in its historic 55-0 shutout win while Oklahoma State barely got by the Wildcats 36-34 at home. In addition to all of this, the Sooners have also gone 5-1 ATS in their last six conference games, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning home record and a near-perfect 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. While Oklahoma State has compiled a consistent 7-3 ATS mark in their last 10 conference games, the Cowboys are also just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following an SU loss. The Sooners are 4-1 ATS in their last five road dates against the Cowboys and 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
