The Cougars routed visiting Colorado 28-0 in 2017. WSU rushed for 194 yards and quarterback Luke Falk threw for three touchdowns. Jamal Morrow rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown. The Buffaloes used three quarterbacks, who completed just 13 of 34 passes for 94 yards and were held to 174 yards of offense. “That was the worst offensive performance we’ve had since I’ve been a coach here,” Colorado coach Mike MacIntyre said. The game was played in a driving rain.

Washington State trails the all-time series with Colorado 6-5. It’s tied 3-3 when playing in Boulder with Colorado claiming a 38-24 win in 2016. WSU’s last win in Boulder came in 2011.

Why Bet on Washington State?

Wazzu won its fifth straight last week, 19-13 over Cal. Gardner Minshew threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Easop Winston Jr. with 32 seconds left. Minshew completed 35 of 51 passes for 334 yards for Washington State (8-1, 5-1 Pac-12), which is seeking its first Pac-12 North title. The Cougars have a 12-game home winning streak, fourth-longest in the nation. Minshew, a graduate transfer, has thrown for at least 300 yards in every game this season. This is Washington State’s first 8-1 start since 2002.

Minshew leads the nation in passing yards (3,517), passing yards-per-game (390.8) and total offense-per-game (397.4). The graduate transfer from Brandon, Miss. is sixth in the country with a Pac-12-best 27 touchdown passes and also leads the country with five games of 400+ passing yards. Minshew has been at his best in the 4th quarter, completing 76-of-102 passes (.745) for 1,018 yards, 11 TD and 0 INT.

RB James Williams leads all running backs nationally with 58 receptions, tied for 2nd with 3 receiving TD. Williams owns 177 receptions, 2nd-most by a WSU running back, and last week moved into a tied for 8th in WSU’s Top-10 for receptions by all players.

This season, Washington State has had at least nine players catch a pass in all nine games. Through 9 games, WSU has had 8 different receivers lead the team in receiving. WSU owns 5 players with 30+ receptions, most by any team in the country. Ten different receivers have 10-plus receptions and 8 receivers have 20-plus receptions in 2018. Four receivers have recorded 100-yard games in 2018, Tay Martin (EWU, at Oregon State), Dezmon Patmon (Utah, at Stanford), Easop Winston Jr. (at USC, Utah) and Jamire Calvin (at Stanford).

Why Bet on Colorado?

The Buffs were 42-34 losers last week to Arizona, their fourth straight defeat. CU led at three different junctures in the game — 10-0 early, 24-23 late in the second quarter and 31-26 early in the third period — but could not prevent the Wildcats from coming back every time. The Buffs also missed some golden opportunities early, getting just three points off of two possessions inside the UA 15-yard line that could have made the early 10-0 lead much bigger. CU quarterback Steven Montez was 27-for-42 for 343 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. Juwann Winfree had a career-high eight catches for 101 yards.

WR Laviska Shenault, the nation’s leader in receptions per game (10.0) as well as yards per game (130.0) missed his third straight game with a toe injury; the Buffs lost two other receivers when K.D. Nixon (lower body) and Jay MacIntyre (concussion) left the game in the first half. If Shenault Jr. returns for Colorado, the Cougars will have to come up with a game plan for a wide receiver who piled up 780 yards on 60 catches and scored six touchdowns before the Buffaloes lost the Pac-12’s then-leading wideout to a toe injury.

Washington State vs Colorado should be a close win for the Cougars.

With Shenault on the field, Colorado is 5-1. Without him, the Buffaloes are 0-3. Shenault is also a staple of Colorado’s run game; on 15 carries this season, he’s rushed for 87 yards and five touchdowns.

The Buffs are averaging 32 points per game, third-best in the Pac-12. Even in their current four-game losing streak, they have averaged more than 25 points per game, with 34 in each of their last two outings. Nationally, the Buffs are still in the top half of the nation in passing offense (30th), scoring offense (41st) and total offense (43rd).

Colorado’s defense has been awful since the Buffaloes lost their first game of the season, at USC. In the past four games, all losses, the Buffs have conceded 35 points per game and have struggled mightily against the pass in the most recent defeats, to Oregon State and Arizona. The Beavers threw for 345 yards and three touchdowns two weeks ago and the Wildcats dialed had 350 yards and four touchdowns last Saturday.

The Buffaloes could be without a few key pieces in their defensive secondary, including starting strong safety Evan Worthington, an All-Pac-12 honorable-mention performer in 2017 who missed the Arizona game with a concussion.
