Written by on November 19, 2016

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will look to improve on their New Year’s Day bowl hopes when they host the Maryland Terrapins in a Week 12 Big Ten battle that looks like a lop-sided affair just waiting to happen. Now, let’s find out if the Cornhuskers can get the win and ATS cover as a two-touchdown home favorite.

In Depth Analysis On The Week 12 College Football Expert Predictions: Terrapins At Cornhuskers

Maryland

The Maryland Terrapins have lost five of their last six games and come into this matchup off a pitiful 62-3 loss against No. 2 Ohio State last weekend while never coming close to covering the spread as a whopping 30-point underdog. Maryland does have a very good quarterback in Perry Hills despite their struggles this season. For the season, Hill is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 1,139 yards with 10 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Receivers D.J. Moore and Teldrick Morgan have combined for 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns while running back Ty Johnson leads the team in rushing with 656 yards and four touchdowns. Maryland averages a modest 26.7 points per game to rank 79th in scoring nationally while allowing an overly generous 30.7 points per game defensively to rank 80th nationally.

Nebraska

The 19th-ranked Cornhuskers snapped their two-game losing streak by beating Minnesota 24-17 last weekend while covering the spread as a 6-point favorite. Nebraska is averaging 28.3 points per game to rank 66th nationally in scoring as quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. has completed just 53.3 percent of his passes for 2,055 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The bad news is that Armstrong has been limited to one TD pass or less in six of his last seven games. Receivers Jordan Westerkamp and Stanley Morgan Jr. have combined for 780 receiving yards and five touchdowns while running back Terrell Newby has rushed for a team-high 727 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Nebraska is allowing 22.6 points per game to rank 34th nationally.

Expert Prediction and Pick

While I’m not real fond of the two-touchdown spread, I’ve got to believe the Nebraska Cornhuskers are the pick to cover, seeing as how Maryland has looked completely incompetent over their last two games. The Terrapins have been held to three points in each of their last two games and 10 points or less in three of their last four losses overall. Nebraska’s only two losses this season came against elite opponents in Wisconsin and Ohio State and the Cornhuskers are clearly the better team in all three phases. While the Cornhuskers have gone 0-2-2 ATS in their last four home games, they’ve also won five straight at home and will take on a Maryland team that has gone 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. Nebraska will win this contest and cover the college football betting line with room to spare!

Pick: Nebraska 38 Maryland 14
