West Virginia at Oklahoma State College Football Expert Predictions

Written by on October 26, 2016

Much of the focus and attention of college football fans goes to the teams who are occupying the top 4 or 5 spots in the season rankings. While this is perfectly natural, it also means that they might be missing out on the play of teams who are quietly going about their business and making a run at the playoffs. One of those teams may well be the unbeaten West Virginia Mountaineers. They stated the season unranked, and were considered by most to be no real threat to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Conference. Things have played out a whole lot differently than expected, though, and the Mountaineers are now the team to beat in that conference, and they have also worked their way into the top 10 in the college football rankings. They have another stern test on their hand this weekend when they head to Stillwater to face an Oklahoma State team that is starting to put some wins together. The Mountaineers will head into the game as a 3.5-point road favorite.

Why bet on the West Virginia Mountaineers

The West Virginia Mountaineers are a team that doesn’t really feature any big name players, but they have bought into a team ethic that is seeing them play some great stuff on both sides of the ball. The last two weeks have been particularly impressive, with West Virginia beating Texas Tech and TCU by a combined score of 82-27. This team is for real, and if they can get past this game with a win, their next two games come against Kansas and Texas, neither of whom are lighting things up this season. You have to think that this game is critical when it comes to playoff aspirations for the Mountaineers, and you had better believe that they are going to be ready to go on Saturday afternoon in Stillwater.

Why bet on the Oklahoma State Cowboys

After a bit of a wobbly start, this Cowboys team is beginning to look as though they are putting things together. They are coming into this one on a 3-game winning streak, and while all of those wins came against what could best be described as lesser opponents, you still have to say that they are getting the job done. The Cowboys went on the road and beat West Virginia last year, but they were soundly beaten 34-10 in their last meeting in Stillwater back in 2014. This Mountaineers team looks better to me than anything they have had over the past couple of years, so the Cowboys will know that they are in for a game here.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Cowboys have an offense that can put points on the board quickly, and they are going to score this weekend. The question, though, is whether they can do enough to slow down a Mountaineers offense that is rolling right now. My guess would be no, which is why I like West Virginia to win and cover.
