Jaguars vs Giants 2018 NFL Week 1 Odds & Pick

Written by on August 24, 2018

Eli Manning and the rebuilding New York Giants will look to order up some home cooking when they host Leonard Fournette and a Jacksonville Jaguars team that enters the 2018 regular season with some very legitimate Super Bowl hopes after coming up just one game short of reaching the big dance a year ago.

If you’re looking to find out if manning and the G-Men can either get the outright win at home or cover the chalk as a field goal underdog, then let’s get to my expert NFL odds prediction on this Week 1 regular season opener.

Jaguars vs Giants 2018 NFL Week 1 Odds & Pick

When: Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 1:00 PM ET Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey TV: FOX Radio: Jacksonville / New York Live Stream: NFL Live NFL Week 1 Odds: Jacksonville -3 / Total: 43.5

Why Bet on The Jacksonville Jaguars?

Why should you consider betting on Jacksonville in this Week 1 Inter-conference clash? Well, because the Jags are the better team in all three phases, that’s why! Jacksonville ranked a stellar fifth in scoring last season (26.1 ppg) and even more impressive second in points allowed (16.8 ppg). While Jacksonville, strangely enough, doesn’t get as much national notoriety as some other teams, make no mistake about it, the Jags are now one of the most complete teams in all of football. Jacksonville ‘keeps it simple’ with their old school style of power rushing the football and shutting down their opponents defensively.

Team Statistics

Offense:
  • Average Score For: 25.89
  • Total Yards: 359.84
  • Pass Yards: 218.68
  • Rush Yards: 141.16
Defense:
  • Average Score Against: 17.74
  • Total Yards: 301.58
  • Pass Yards: 190.05
  • Rush Yards: 111.53

Why Bet on the New York Giants?

Are the Giants a safe bet for NFL Week 1?

Why should you consider betting on the Giants as a 3-point underdog in their regular season and home opener? Well, the fact of the matter is that the Giants will almost certainly be better than they were when they went an uninspiring 3-13 a year ago while ranking an awful 31st in scoring (15.4 ppg) and uninspiring 27th in points allowed (24.3 ppg). Their addition of gifted running back Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick in the draft and new head coach Pat Shurmur will make the Giants more dangerous offensively and I suspect it could re-energize veteran quarterback Eli Manning in the process.

Team Statistics

Offense:
  • Average Score For:15.38
  • Total Yards: 314.25
  • Pass Yards: 217.44
  • Rush Yards: 96.81
Defense:
  • Average Score Against: 24.25
  • Total Yards: 373.19
  • Pass Yards: 252.38
  • Rush Yards: 120.81

Jaguars vs Giants NFL Week 1 Analysis and Prediction

While I really like the offseason moves the Giants made to improve their team heading into 2018, the fact of the matter is that the G-Men have quite a ways to go in order to get to the level that Jacksonville is now at. Again, the Jaguars are one of the most complete teams in the league and have some legitimate hopes of reaching Super Bowl 53 after coming up a game short last season.

Jacksonville also plays a simple style of football they can play each and every week and one that doesn’t rely on the success or failures of mediocre veteran quarterback Blake Bortles. The Jags are basically going to punch you in the mouth with the battering ram that is second-year running back Leonard Fournette and shut down your offense with an elite defense led by superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

The Jaguars are a robust 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games while Manning and the Giants are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Week 1 games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in the month of September. Jacksonville wins and covers the spread people!
