The Rumor Mill Never Slows Down | NFL Betting News – Sept. 19th Edition

Trey Lance Out, Jimmy Garoppolo In

After the San Francisco 49ers decided to go with Trey Lance as their quarterback for this season, people were expecting Jimmy Garoppolo to be traded and look for another starting position. However, football is a weird sport, and he will already be back on the field starting due to Lance’s injury.

With 2:20 remaining in the first quarter in their game against the Seattle Seahawks, Lance broke his ankle and has to have season-ending surgery to repair it. Garoppolo has led this team to a pair of NFC Championship Games since joining the team, including last year, so it will be an interesting change for the 49ers as a whole.

Fighting in the Big Easy

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints faced off in Week 2 and there was a bench-clearing brawl between two of the franchise stars in Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore and wide receiver Mike Evans.

Late in the fourth quarter, Lattimore got into the face of Tom Brady and Evans came in and shoved Lattimore as the two went to the ground. Both Lattimore and Evans were ejected from the game and have been chippy with one another over the years as they have been matched up with one another. As of this writing, the NFL is said to be reviewing tape and seeing if either man will face any disciplinary action regarding their status for Week 3.

Is It Time for a QB Change in Pittsburgh?

Through two weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has not looked very good with quarterback Mitch Trubisky at the helm. The franchise drafted quarterback Kenny Pickett, who played in the same stadium throughout his collegiate career at Pittsburgh and let him stay on the sidelines to begin the season. Now, it looks like the time to change up the formula could be now.

The Steelers are luckily 1-1 as Trubisky’s play has been brutal. His surface-level stats look decent as he is completing 59.2 percent of his passes for 362 yards with two touchdown passes and an interception. However, it gets worse as he has a putrid 38.6 QBR, which is 24th in the NFL right now. He’s not getting much yardage as well, as he has 5.1 passing yards per attempt as well and making the offense be more of a short-field attack and let the opposing secondary cheat and not be afraid of the mid-range or deep passing game.

It’s been two weeks, but it looks like the time is more than ever to change quarterbacks heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. They barely won Week 1 after forcing the Bengals to commit five turnovers, and that should tell you how anemic the offense has looked with Trubisky under center.
